Original Fire Lyrics

The original fire has died and gone, but the riot inside moves on (x4)

With a pen in one hand taking a stand drugged on kerosine
'84 and 5 would find us something to believe
Right or wrong with dirty hands on wires
Singing songs in dischord choirs
Screaming in braille no temptress prize
Could ever yield anything so real

The original fire has died and gone, but the riot inside moves on (x2)

Golden soldiers born much older than they'll ever live to be
Diving into a sea of hands in a long forgotten city
Here the rain falls forever after
And the swinging vines hang dead in rafters
Blood rush to your head induces laughter endlessly

The original fire has died and gone, but the riot inside moves on (x2)

Can't explain it it was something to see
Can't contain something ever real
Ever real

Can't explain it it was something to see
Can't contain something so ever real
Ever real

The original fire has died and gone, but the riot inside moves on (x4)

This is about how Chris feels like Audioslave is carrying on the tradition of earlier rock groups and not letting mainstream rock die out. He did a good job of it too. It also has an older musical feel, unlike some other Audioslave songs

Great first single from their new album Revelations. Sure, it doesn't sound as strong as their other first singles, "Cochise" and "Be Yourself" (I believe this was the first single), but awesome nonetheless. It definetely sounds different than their other stuff. Namely the bluesy singing during the chorus. Can't wait for the new album to come out. Damn, I have to wait until September! This is a good year for rock, with Pearl Jam's new album, Tool's new album, Chili Pepper's new album, and now this (I know that I'm going to like the album; the first single is proof of that; and I saw a "Sound of a Gun" video, and it was great).

That said, I think the song is talking about, well, rock. Rock has been proclaimed dead for several years now ('The original fire has died and gone') but there are still legions of rock fans, and, like I said before, this year is a good one for rock. (The riot inside moves on) Of course, I'm not analyzing the verses, so I'm probably wrong, but that's my input. Rock on!!

This song is awesome. A whole new Audioslave sound...though it still gives tom merrelo his time to shine (like every audioslave song...) but it is also bass drivin, which adds a great deal to the song. And does Chris Cornell's voice sound better since the first Audioslave CD? I know he quit smoking and drinking so maybe his voice is being slowly restored to its glory days lol. I like the bluesy rock of this song.

Well, his singing in Out of Exile was better than Audioslave; his voice sounds clearer. It was because he allegedly quit smoking and drinking, but, even though his vocal performance is good in this song, he seems to slur his words together more often, like the first album. Though I don't think he's drinking again.

That's an interesting interpretation, T-CAP75. I honestly don't know what to make of the song's meaning; it may take several more listens before I begin to understand it. I really can't wait to hear the rest of what Revelations has to offer.

I really like the new sound of the song, too; it seems as though Audioslave is trying to integrate the sound of some classic rock groups into their music. There's definitely some trademark guitar work by Tom Morello at the end, but I think the bulk of the song can be likened to, say, Deep Purple, or another hard rock group of days gone by. Aside from being somewhat repetitive, Original Fire hits the nail on the head.

Most of my buddies hate this song. Well, they don't hate it, they're just disappointed. I'll admit, I wish the first single was a bit stronger, but who says the first single has to be the best song? Heck, on most albums, I love all the songs, even the non-hit songs. And, anyways, it is a really good song. Like kirbsta said, it gets a bit repetitve (Cornell sings the chorus line a bit too many times). But otherwise, it's good. Also, I've heard "Sound of a Gun", which I like, and Blender magazine says that the title track "Revelations" is good, although I haven't heard it yet.

I'll buy the new album when it's out... I just sincerely hope the rest of the album doesn't sound like this. Their debut was pretty good, Out Of Exile was amazing, but this song has me a bit worried... Sound Of A Gun sounds awesome though.
