A Benediction Lyrics
all the sad boys come home with you
drape you in garlands and sing their sad songs to you
pour all their stories like rain through you
all the sad boys come home with you.
all the green children pine for you
they learned all your secrets and made up your mind for you
although they were unkind to you
all the green children pine for you.
all the pale grey stars shine through you
your body fell prey to the transparent mind of you
all blue ghosts search for signs of you
all the pale grey stars shine through you.
drape you in garlands and sing their sad songs to you
pour all their stories like rain through you
all the sad boys come home with you.
they learned all your secrets and made up your mind for you
although they were unkind to you
all the green children pine for you.
your body fell prey to the transparent mind of you
all blue ghosts search for signs of you
all the pale grey stars shine through you.

I think it's about somebody who let themselves get used their whole life until they had an empty, numb soul. I don't know why the title is "A Benediction" though.

I think this is an antiwar song. The "sad boys" are the returning survivors with their survivor\'s guilt. The green children are the foolish, naive ones who fetishize war and the military – and place you, the returning dead, in that narrative. \n\nYou fell prey to your own illusions about the war and about being a soldier. In the end, you\'re left with nothing but ghosts, phantasms...tricks of the light.
