I don't know why
You want to follow me tonight
When the rest of the world
With whom I've crossed and I've quarreled

Let's me down so
For a thousand reasons that I know
To share forever the unrest
With all the demons I possess
Beneath the silver moon

Maybe you were right
But baby I was lonely
I don't want to fight
I'm tired of being sorry

Chandler and Van Nuys
With all the vampires and their brides
We're all bloodless and blind
And longing for a life
Beyond the silver moon

Maybe you were right
But baby I was lonely
I don't want to fight
I'm tired of being sorry

I'm standing in the street
Crying out for you
No one sees me
But the silver moon

So far away â?? so outer space
I've trashed myself â?? I've lost my way
I've got to get to you
I've got to get to you

Maybe you were right
But baby I was lonely
I don't want to fight
I'm tired of being sorry

I'm standing in the street
Crying out for you
No one sees me
But the silver moon

this is obviously a song about a guy who is in love with a girl. He did something wrong cos he's tired of being sorry. Maybe he cheated (he says that he was lonely). At the end of the song it seems like he is trying to get her back but he is alone with the moon. I am confused with this because at the beginning of the song it says "I don’t know why You want to follow me tonight", so it seems that he already has her. Or maybe he is talking to two girls?

i think he has done something wrong like drugs ("I’ve trashed myself ") and gotten into fights about it. and things like that are ussually done by night ("beneath the silver moon") but why did he pick chandler (in arizona) and van nuy (in california)? are those areas filled with druggies? why those particular places? he has hurt this girl by doing these unlawfull activities, and she is bugging him about it (that is why she is following him in the begining of the song). the vampires and thier brides refers to all the adicts (does brides refer to prostitues?) who regret doing wat they are, and trying to get a life "beyond the silvwer moon"

I agree with the previous writer, however, I don't think he is in love with anyone but himself. The vampires are definitly the adicts. There is someone, a woman perhaps, who does love him, although it could be a close friend. He wants to kick the habbit, "I'm tired of being sorry" is a reference to coming down from his highs. Even tho he knows he is loved, he cannot love back, not until he has conquered his own personal demons. He "crys out" for someone, but they can't hear him because he is communicating in a way only he can understand.

I think this song is about a guy who has lost his way in life, has gotten into trouble with drugs and has messed up his life in general, he is lonely now, walking alone at nights but there is a girl, who, he knows has always been there for him and maybe knows she still is there, that is why he says ''I don’t know why You want to follow me tonight'' maybe he wonders why is she still there after what he has done. So now he goes back to her to ask for her forgiveness, he knows she is the only one he needs and who can help him.

my theory is that this is a horror romance novel

the singer is a vampire who wants to fly away with a girl. but the girl did not want to go, so he took her sister. the vampire comes back from flying with the girl's sister and realizes that the girl really did want to go, but she was too stupid to say something, so the vampire was all like "oh...okay...sorry" and the girl would not forgive him, caz she hates her sister, but her sister likes lemon skittles, but that has nothing to do with anything. so then, the vampire was all like "you know what, f you!! i apologized. either come with me to fly or stay and be a bitch!!" and the girl still hasnt made up her mind, caz the singer never gave us an answer.

jking!! i think this song is about aliens.

Okie Dokie, I love this song. Now as far as it's meaning, hmm, well, here's my opinion.

" I don’t know why You want to follow me tonight"

I think the writer of the song went astray and was cheating on his girlfriend and she tailed him.

"When the rest of the world With whom I’ve crossed and I’ve quarreled Let’s me down so For a thousand reasons that I know To share forever the unrest With all the demons I possess Beneath the silver moon"

It sounds like he's at odds with many people in his life, and he realizes it's his fault. I don't see the 'silver moon' as being drugs - like some posters before mentioned, but rather that he is speaking in literal terms, as in the moon itself. Did you ever stand outside at night and just look up at the sky and feel so small and insignificant? I think that's what he's feeling.

"Maybe you were right But baby I was lonely I don’t want to fight I’m tired of being sorry"

Saying he was lonely - it goes back to my comment about cheating. . .maybe he was with a hooker?

"Chandler and Van Nuys With all the vampires and their brides We’re all bloodless and blind And longing for a life Beyond the silver moon"

So it sounds like he's in the San Fernando Valley in California...I know Van Nuys is a town, but think theres also a Van Nuys Blvd....as well as Chandler Blvd...maybe they intersect....if so, it's possible that this is where she followed him to or from and he's referring to the 'vampires and their brides' in reference to pimps and prostitutes. Then the 'bloodless and blind' would be the lack of a real life that those people would have. . .they work the night, like a vampire would.

"Maybe you were right But baby I was lonely I don’t want to fight I’m tired of being sorry I’m standing in the street Crying out for you No one sees me But the silver moon"

Sounds like she (his girlfriend) gave him hell, and drove off and he was literally calling out trying to get her to come back.

"So far away – so outer space I’ve trashed myself – I’ve lost my way I’ve got to get to you"

I think he's totally disgusted with himself and finally waking up and realizing that he needs her.

Whatever the intended meaning, it has a great beat. I wish I lived in California, I know they perform out there and would love to see them, but it's way too far to travel there from the east coast just for a couple of hours. They've written some really cool songs, I hope they find someone to promote them into a nationwide tour.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
