It's funny I know
But I'm disappointed in you
I thought you could read my mind
But I came home early
And saw that a drawer'd been opened
Looks like you've been reading my diary instead

How does it feel to realize
You're all alone behind your eyes?
It seems to me if you can't trust
You can't be trusted

Caught in a dream
Picking up astral signals
Some of them psychic, you better watch what you think
Happens to be that everybody else's dreams are Freudian clues
You better watch what you dream

You want to see the other side
What's going on behind the eyes
Still it seems if you can't trust
You can't be trusted

Didn't you know we're as close as we can be?

The sun's coming up
She's pulled all the blankets over
Curled in a ball
Like she's hiding from me and
That's when I know
She's gonna be pissed when she wakes up
For terrible things I did to her in her dreams

You want to see the other side
What's going on behind the eyes
Still it seems if you can't trust
You can't be trusted

Didn't you know we're as close as we can be?

Hello.

It's sad to realize the person you really thougt understood you, and whom you completly trusted, was really just a paranoid fake. That's what it says to me, at least.

"That's when I know She's gonna be pissed when she wakes up For terrible things I did to her in her dreams" I love that part. Good song.

It seems like he's with a girl who has a case of paranoia or some other psychological problem.

God, I LOVE this song. "How does it feel to realize you're all alone behind your eyes?" It feels sucky, that's how it feels. like likethecomet said, you feel relievedf to find someone who loves you and knows you and trusts you, but then you find out that they doubt everything you do, and don't trust you at all. It sucks.

I reckon this might be about a girl who thinks she is a bit of a medium/psychic or whatever. Maybe paranoid too? She claims to read minds, talks about astral signals, and even does that dream interpreting crap - (eg You're dreaming of a cow, it means you miss your mother in law) "You wanna see the other side" maybe she wants to read peoples' minds and stuff like that coz she doesn't trust people or is paranoid? "How does it feel to realise you're all alone behind your eyes?" Kinda like 'sorry dear, but there are no dead people giving you clues'. It mostly seems to fit to me. also the fact that she dreams of him doing terrible things to her and her getting really scared about it supports the paranoia hypothesy.

I don't think either of the people in the song are psychic... I just think this is about a guy who feels like his relationship with his girlfriend is falling apart... maybe he has a dream about it and writes about it in his diary... anyway he realizes his girlfriend is really paranoid and doesn't trust him.

Also i think this song ties directly into "Landed".. the two songs have kind of the same feel to them and at the end of this song he says "Hello..." could be saying that to the person he's phoning in "Landed".

It's pretty obvious. It's about a person who can't trust anything, who digs through people's stuff to try to know the truth, paranoid to the point of beleiving that someone might beable to read their thoughts and see their dreams and also trust so little as to beleive that the version of someone they see in their dreams is what that person easily could be. Basically, they can't trust to an extreme and that makes them impossible to trust.

Trouble Breathing

While the obvious connections with suicide or alcoholism could be drawn easily, more subtly this song could be about someone who views the world through a negative lens constantly and how as much as the writer tries to show the beauty in the world, this person refuses to see it. It's one or another between the rope and the bottle. There is no good option for this person. They can't see it. Skiba sings it in a kind of exasperated way like He's tired of hearing this negative view constantly and just allowing that person to continue feeling the way they feel knowing he can't do anything about it. You can hear it when he says maybe you're a vampire.

@Kahiara Actually I think the husband passed away, "She sang for you last night She heard you were calling" Many people say they have felt, heard, or seen their loved ones after they have passed. "Don't be scared now Close your eyes She holds guard tonight Go on forward no remorse Life will take it's course" This is said to the late husband by a third part (never named), who encourages him to pass on. Because life will eventually continue. The phrase "holds guard" refers to the ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/… ) which is a Christian ceremony held after someone dies. Now it is usually held right after the funeral, but in most celtiic countries the wake is held before the funeral. "She danced with you last night so you will remember All you have shared, a lifetime." This sentence feels as if the only thing it wants to convey is their history together, namely, husband and wife. For the rest it just refers back to the first verse.

Alma Matters
Morrissey
The man has pseudo-friends who constantly criticize his actions. They moralize him, "teach" him and advise him to make a significant change in his life, because the way he is and what he does is not what they say it should be. They may find his life lame or immoral. They hold themselves up as role models. The man replies that he will make his own choices and decisions and he does not agree to unconditionally make himself under the influence of questionable quality advice. He justifies this by saying that there is always someone for whom he will be important, no matter what he does and no matter what he is. Although it is not said directly, I read it as meaning that he will always be important to himself in every way and he will always have his own support. "Everyone is different and maybe that's a good thing, but you exceeded that mark 1000 times" - I remember very well how sad the words I once heard (from my peers and it was in negative context) at school made me feel.
