2 AM and she calls me 'cause I'm still awake
"Can you help me unravel my latest mistake?
I don't love him, Winter just wasn't my season"
Yeah, we walk through the doors, so accusing, their eyes
Like they have any right at all to criticize
Hypocrites, you're all here for the very same reason

'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, girl
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe, just breathe
Oh, breathe, just breathe

May, he turn twenty-one on the base at Fort Bliss
"Just a day," he said down to the flask in his fist
Ain't been sober since maybe October of last year
Here in town, you can tell he's been down for a while
But, my God, it's so beautiful when the boy smiles
Wanna hold him, maybe I'll just sing about it

'Cause you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button, boys
So cradle your head in your hands
And breathe, just breathe
Oh, breathe, just breathe

"There's a light at each end of this tunnel" you shout
"'Cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out
And these mistakes you've made, you'll just make them again"
If you only try turning around

2 AM and I'm still awake, writing a song
If I get it all down on paper, it's no longer inside of me
Threatening the life it belongs to
And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd
'Cause these words are my diary screaming out loud
And I know that you'll use them however you want to

But you can't jump the track, we're like cars on a cable
And life's like an hourglass glued to the table
No one can find the rewind button now
Sing it if you understand
And breathe, just breathe
Oh, breathe, just breathe

Oh, breathe, just breathe
Oh, breathe, just breathe
Oh-oh, oh-oh
Oh-oh, oh-oh
Oh-oh, oh, oh

    Song Meaning
this is what i believe this song means: 2 Am and she calls me cause I'm still awake Can you help me unravel my latest mistake I don't love him, winter just wasn't my season. Yeah we walk through the doors so accusing their eyes Like they have any right at all to criticize Hypocrites you're all here for the very same reason. her friend calls her and tells her that she is pregnant but she doesnt love the father and so they go to an abortion clinic and the other people there are mentally judging her May he turned 21 on the base of Fort Bliss Just today he sat down to the flask in his fist Ain't been sober since maybe October of last year Here in town you can tell he's been down for while But my God it's so beautiful when the boy smiles Wanna hold him but maybe I'll just sing about him another friend just turned 21 and he is already an alcoholic and he is depressed but when he was happy he was a beautiful person and she wants to comfort him but she cant There's a light at each end of this tunnel you shout cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out And these mistakes you've made You'll just make them again if you'll only try turnin' around 2Am and I'm still awake writing this song If i get it all down on paper it's no longer inside of me threaten' the life it belongs to. And I feel like I'm naked in front of the crowd Cause these words are my diary screamin' out aloud And I know that you'll use them however you want to. youll never get better if you dont accept the past and move on dont let the past eat at you or it will ruin your future her words are to be interpreted to fit into anyone's personal experience and to help them be free

I absolutely love the mood of this song, just the way she belts it out at "Cause these words are my diary screamin' out aloud". I personally get a sense of a woman (her friend) who's broken down and needs help that she can't provide herself. It almost feels like they're sitting in a waiting room for a hospital or maybe a counseling clinic when she says "Yeah we walk through the doors so accusing their eyes Like they have any right at all to criticize Hypocrites you're all here for the very same reason." It's like a whole bunch of broken people (including herself) who are all looking back on their lives and the decisions they've made, wondering where they're headed. Like for instance, a man who's an alcoholic with a son that he can't hold because of restraining orders, or even just he doesn't want to touch him because he might hurt him. She passes the feeling that we all need to lean on each other to make it through. There's no way to live this life if you don't have other people around you to hold you together when you're falling apart.

I fell in love with this song the first time i heard it...just anna's outlook on the way life is and how we try to fix things that we can't...we can't go back to the past, we can only go forward...she's saying you just have to keep living no matter what it's your way because life's going to go on anyway... my favorite line is: "There's a light at each end of this tunnel, you shout cause you're just as far in as you'll ever be out and these mistakes you've made you'll just make them again if you'll only try turning around" it's saying that you're stuck and you really don't know how you got in or how to get out. If you try to fix the past you'll just keep making the same mistakes!

i LOVE the line "life's like an hourglass glued to the table" its so powerful when you think about it. it's talking about the passing of time and how you can't speed up or slow down time or events that are happening. the fact that the hourglass is glued to the table shows that you can try whatever you want but its staying put, so theres nothing you can do to stop it. you can't flip over the hourglass to go back in time. because its glue down

I think that this song is about different people and all their conflicts and problems in life. You can't go back and correct your problems, and you just sort of have to sit down and breathe, let it all sort of unfold, becxause there's nothing you can do. But it's okay, just breathe

When I hear this song it makes me think of AA, or similar meetings, the lyrics work. "2am and she calls me cuz I'm still awake" kinda common when fixing addiction "Yeah we walk through the doors so accusing their eyes Like they have any right at all to criticize Hypocrites you're all here for the very same reason" Sounds like a meeting to me "No one can find the rewind button boys so cradle your head in your hands And breathe, just breathe, whoa breath just breathe" Sounds like what happens during a meeting. Maybe I'm crazy, but that's what I think of every time I hear this song.

I really love this song. The lyrics are powerful and the tune is pretty catchy too. I really like the line "But my God it's so beautiful when the boy smiles..."

Somewhere Only We Know
Keane
Per the FAQ on Keane's website, Keane's drummer Richard Hughes, stated the following: "We've been asked whether "Somewhere Only We Know" is about a specific place, and Tim has been saying that, for him, or us as individuals, it might be about a geographical space, or a feeling; it can mean something individual to each person, and they can interpret it to a memory of theirs... It's perhaps more of a theme rather than a specific message... Feelings that may be universal, without necessarily being totally specific to us, or a place, or a time..." With the nostalgic sentiment and the overall tone of the song, I think Keane is attempting to express a Portuguese term known as 'saudade', which does not have a direct English translation but roughly means "that which we remember because it is gone."

Zombie
Cranberries, The
"Zombie" is about the ethno-political conflict in Ireland. This is obvious if you know anything of the singer (Dolores O'Riordan)'s Irish heritage and understood the "1916" Easter Rising reference. "Another head hangs lowly Child is slowly taken And the violence caused such silence Who are we mistaken - Another mother's breaking Heart is taking over" Laments the Warrington bomb attacks in which two children were fatally injured on March 23rd, 1993. Twelve year old Tim Parry was taken off life support with permission from his mother after five days in the hospital, virtually braindead. "But you see it's not me It's not my family" References how people who are not directly involved with the violence feel about it. They are "zombies" without sympathy who refuse to take action while others suffer.
