1969 Lyrics

the posters above me are trying too hard.

this song is most likely referring to Amo Bishop Roden. for those who don't know, David Koresh was the leader of the Waco cult. the track length is 1:49, and the Waco massacre happened on April 19th 1993 (or 4-19-93).
1969 was also the year that the use of CS gas was banned by the US government against foreign enemies. the same gas was used in the Waco massacre.
also, the church of satan was formed in 1969. this ties in with the total listening time of Geogaddi being 66 min and 6 sec... or the file size of all the tracks being 666MB (among many other occult references).

you're not right but you're not exactly wrong either.
a lot of people believe the CoS was founded on Walpurgisnacht, April 30 1966. supposedly this was when Satanism burst onto the public scene, when LaVey 'announced the creation of the CoS'. but actually, LaVey was simply teaching lectures on the subject. Edward Webber, a professional publicist, suggested he form a church and get a charter from the state of california. the 'CoS' got the charter much later in the year of 1966. LaVey later wrote 'the satanic bible' in 1969, and this became the... well, bible... of satanic philosophy (which is really all the 'religion' is). needless to say, 'the satanic bible' is what truly defined LaVey's satanic philosophy (there have been satanists far before LaVey, but the popular philosophy is defined by Lavey) and extended it to the mass consciousness. to keep up the whole mysterious story it is still said that the CoS was formed on Walpurgisnacht, April 30 1966 (I Anno Satanas)... but for anyone who truly knows, the actual church wasn't in full swing until 1969, when LaVey's philosophy could reach more than the lecture halls of california.

from the OOR interview:
'"1969 in the sunshine" (from: 1969). What memory is that? Woodstock? A yellowed picture of your parents? A collective memory that fits your music?' 'Mike: In that song it refers to a specific period in the history of a religious group, and at the same time the period in general, the hopefulness of a forward-thinking generation that wasn't aware of what was coming in their collective future.'

oh man..this song is so great to listen to...heard of boards of canada actually from this website called fat-pie.com..its amazing. oh and locust toybox is good too.. man that david firth dude is great... : )

love it

Actually the "church of satan' was formed in 1966.

this site sets a lot of the myths sorround LaVey straight. always read a little more about the subject than what the author trying to sell the book tells you.
and remember, just because LaVey liked the way the media called him the 'priest of the devils church', took the idea, and ran with it to gain noteriaty... doesn't mean that the 'church' was actually formed.

*** the track length is 4:19, not 1:49... sorry.

Yeah, I agree. LaVey was full of shit. By the way, the lyrics of BoC's remix of "Poppy Seed" have part of the same lyric in it. They go something like: "Edward says to me that there are approximately [2500?] to [3000?] cult organisations in the United States today .... there are millions of people ... involved in what we call destructive cults. ... Although not a follower of David Koresh, she is ... I don't think that somehow ... suicidal impulses."
