I hesitate to say I was bait for you
Could that be something that you all would do?
I'd be lying if I did now say I wasn't intrigued
But timing is everything here,
and for the moment the "we" is reprieved
But, as I watch the girl unfold before my eyes, I discover
That I like her

Would you please get out from under my skin?
'Cause I can't begin this yet
And I don't know what my intentions are
They're speaking in a different tongue
And deep inside, I'm not as tough as I seem
But I won't let you know
Until it's right, I'm gonna stay my distance
And you should go

I'm in the dance, and it's a chance
But stay and watch awhile
I'll be singing a tune just for you with a smile
And maybe, if I'm lucky
You'll tip your hat to me, and you'll discover
That you like her

Would you please get out from under my skin?
'Cause I can't begin this yet
And I don't know what my intentions are
They're speaking in a different tongue
And, deep inside, I'm not as tough as I seem
But I won't let you know
Until it's right, I'm gonna stay my distance
And you should go

Crazy as it all plays out
I think I'm lonelier than I've ever been before
'Cause I was so close
To going through that door
But I don't want to be to blame for them
I don't want to be to blame

Oh, would you please get out from under my skin?
'Cause I can't begin this yet
And I don't know what my intentions are
They're speaking in a different tongue
And, deep inside, I'm not as tough as I seem
But I won't let you know
Until it's right, I'm gonna stay my distance, and you should go
Oh, would you please get out
I'm not as strong as I seem, but I won't let you know

To me the song is about someone you just can be with, but intrigues you. And you can't stop thinking about them, no matter how hard you try.

She's acting differently around this person, but likes this new person she's become: "But, as I watch the girl unfold before my eyes, I discover//That I like her"

Yet, she doesn't feel ready for all these changes, and she doesn't feel ready to let this person she likes, all the way in. She's just not ready: "Would you please get out from under my skin? 'Cause I can't begin this yet"

And until she figures things out, and feels she's ready to feel comfortable with this person, she'd just prefer not to see them: "Until it's right, I'm gonna stay my distance And you should go"

I doubt it. When she talks about "her" she's talking about herself. I think she refers to herself in the third person sometimes to emphasize the changes shes going through; she's becoming a different person.

I think the line 'Would you please get out from under my skin?' says it all. Great song.

I think it's about a girl who's being relentless pursued by someone who intrigues her, but she's just not ready to commit to any sort of relationship. She doesn't have any negative feelings for this person, but she is also not in the right place in her life to have a relationship ("timing is everything here"). And her feelings are torn as to what she should do ("I don't know what my intentions, they're speaking in a different tongue"). She's trying to keep her distance so he doesn't know that she likes him because she wants to protect herself from getting hurt ("And deep inside I'm not as tough as I seem, but I won't let you know, and until it's right I'm gonna stay my distance, and you should go"). At the same time, at the end of the day, she still likes him and is still affected by him ("would you please get out from under my skin").

Been there, done that. Totally know what you mean, Rachael.

Definitely this guy's really into her, but she's unsure and not ready to jump into anything just yet, and she needs space to decide, but he's not giving her any...

Also, I think it's about taking chances and being scared to:

"Crazy as it all plays out I think I'm lonelier than I've ever been before 'Cause I was so close To going through that door But I don't want to be to blame for them"

    Makes a lot of sense.

While I agree that the "her" being referenced in this song is herself, Rachael has made references to possibly being a lesbian. I don't think she ever meant them, I think she was just trying to express her frustration with men. The song "Woman" is one example.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Midnight
Ed Sheeran
“Midnight” is a song about finding a love that is so true that it provides a calming feeling through every storm. Ed Sheeran reflects on his good fortunes in landing someone with such peace and support and speaks of not fearing the dark days because he knows they’ll all end in the safety nets of her arms. “Well, good morning there / What a way to start the day / With everything laid bare,” Ed Sheeran sings in the first verse, enthusiastic to be waking up beside his woman. He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
