As Your Voice Fades Lyrics

somebody please tell me
what am I suppose to do
you died and i'm here
thinking that i hear your voice,
but it's somebody else
it's always somebody else
why did you die?
don't leave me please
i beg you God tonight bring me peace
i'll never sleep without the dreams of you alive here with me
the brightness left your eyes
as i held your face
don't tell me it's the right time
and your last words will sustain me
until my end...until i see you again
while words (your life) evade me (but a moment)
i'll wait to (i'll cling to) remember you (forever)
and what you had (your words) meant to me (on my blood)
could never be forgotten
the chains (why) of death (don't take)
are falling (away), but my heart still bleeds
it longs for (why) the day (did you die)
when we will be as one

This song is obviously about dealing with the death of someone close to you. I heard Emery for the first time in my life, and they played this song to start their set. It totally blew me away! I bought the cd at the show and havent stopped listening since. These guys kick ass

I myself am a Christian, and I think everyone posting thus far is an idiot. You christian people who are hellbent on claiming this song for Jesus, give up. He clearly gives the person who died a sense of urgency. About living with that person, and very physical traits to thier relationship. Clearly NOT JESUS. And to you people who feel the need to bash Christian beliefs, DIAF. There are a few idiots like the ones you see here, but keep your closed minds to yourselves, no need to hate on what other people think, we're talking about a song anyhow, not religion.

This song is about the death of toby's grandama not about God

nicklay...well your sorta right...this song is actually about christ and his death, basically he is singing about his imperfect relation with christ and how he can't wait to be in heaven where his relationship will be made perfect

NO IT'S NOT ABOUT CHRIST'S DEATH IT'S ABOUT HIS WIFE DIEING OF CANCER SO SHUT UP AND DON'T BE SO SMUG ABOUT STUFF YOU DON' KNOW

Jewman, take a chill pill, homie. This is just a forum. If what Dansr said offended nicklav, let nicklav handle it.

Why must everyone find religious ties to so many song lyrics? not all band write about god all the time....that would be damn boring.

toallofyou...Science still hasnt proven that Jesus didnt exist, and wait, I dont think science has proven that Jesus didnt die on the cross either. He was a real person, and he did die on the cross for YOU, and everyone else. A lot of the Word was written by people who were close to Jesus when he was living. I dont know if you know this, but Science has proven that energy cannot be created or destroyed...how did we get here then? Anyway, I think this song is about Christ. Take the song as you may, its your choice, just as believing in Jesus is your choice. Make your own decision

jesus was a alien, gosh get it right.

This song is clearly about someone close to singer who died. The singer is now relying on God for encouragement and strength to make it through. I have a lot of respect for bands like Emery who are able to have such amazing, smart lyrics which aren't just blatantly obviously Christian, but definitely have Christian meaning when you actually think about them.

In an interview, Toby said that this song was written in the days after his grandmother died. They were extremely close. It's describing Toby's grandma dying in a hospital, and can apply to any close friend dying.

My Interpretation

I think this song is about how he watched somebody he loved died. And he misses them and longs for them. Which explains why he thinks he hears their voice, but it can't be them because they're not alive. He dreams of them being alive. And basically he's asking God to heal him and help him feel better until he dies and is reunited with that person. He's mourning.

I know it's been a while since anyone commented on this, but I'd like to throw in something to a lot of people. Emery is NOT a Christian band. They are all Christians, yes, and while some of their songs may be based upon Christianity, it does not mean that it's all of them, it does not mean that it's any of them, nor does it mean that none of them are. Thy have stated that they don't want to be labeled as a Christian band, like has been stated before, and that their music is for us to interpret, more or less. So technically, everyone's right.

Even in their newest CD it's been said that while it's possibly their most spiritual CD yet, the lyrics in it are also about their own religion, their doubts, their troubles, and so forth. So before jumping into a giant fucking crusade, just start respecting what everybody thinks.

And before all you "satanist/atheistic" pricks start going on about anything more. This is coming from someone who doesn't believe in God, Satan, or even Science. Nihilistic here. Makes me the perfect mediator in my eyes.
P.S. If you don't know what Nihilist is, it's the belief in nothing.
