I agree that people get/read what they want from a song irrespective of its true meaning. This song is written so beautifully that its easy for everyone to have their own interpretations. <br /> <br /> I personally feel that it is about losing or leaving someone you love. Until this year though, I really didn't appreciate how moving this song is. <br /> <br /> Having lost my father in the summer, i can see the lyrics from that point of view. I imagine it is exactly how my Mother feels or felt on the day it happened, wanting him to wake up (light up) and speak but understanding why he can't. Saying long goodbyes, being afraid, being right beside you. <br /> <br /> I also can see how it can be about the breakup of a long term relationship. Having done this myself only two weeks ago, I think it could be about a couple who still love each other but have to break up because of their situation, maybe long distance or whatever. It makes me think of our last moments at the airport saying our long goodbyes wondering if it will be the last time we ever see each other <br /> <br /> To think I might no see those eyes<br /> Makes it so hard not to cry<br /> And as we say our last goodbyes<br /> I nearly do<br /> <br /> Looking in to each others eyes thinking it could work but not here. Wondering deep down inside if you are making the right choice and wanting the other person to speak up and say lets run away from here but understanding why they do not speak as they know they are doing the right thing.<br /> <br /> Louder Louder<br /> And we'll run for our lives<br /> I can hardly speak, I understand<br /> Why you can't raise your voice to say<br /> <br /> Wanting to slow the last moments down as there isn't enough time for all that needs to be said.
