Nobody's Home Lyrics
I think it's about aliens coming to arth and finding us nuked to death. With the state of the world today... It might happen. 'course, other interpretentations have been voiced before. hopes people come and post and debate this out
This is a truly haunting song. I stumbled on it when I was about 13 or so. (My father had the album) During this time I was having a hard time grasping the concept of the world ending, no more people and me dying. Sad thoughts. But it helped me because its just as much a very beautiful song. I do subscribe to the idea that it makes you think, if a visitor should someday travel to earth what do we want them to find, what will our legacy be? Just a beautifully writen song both lyrics and melody.
Nice, Zorgn, I never saw that before. I always thought it was about Jesus coming to preach to humanity but being shunned, and the world falling apart as a result.
I'd always shared a similar thought to Neotemplar. I found the sound of knocking on the door, near the end of the song, to be reminiscent of Jesus' words: "Behold, I stand at the door and knock..."
@jeff100000 I agree. Kerry Livgren is a Christian.

To jeff1&5/0's Nice to know someone else shares my thought on this. You should listen to "hold on" by kansas & you will get that same thought. Most think this song is a love song, but I'll let you decide.
Jesus arrives back to earth that he created, and the people aren't looking for him. He's sad that he's not able to reach the people. The people are walking dead, and they don't even know it. Yet, he stands at the door and knocks softly. Who will answer?
A requiem was never sung, no elegy was read No monument was carved in stone in memory of the dead For those who made this place do not remain They feel no pain A stranger fate was never known
The Christians that originally built the west have no representation left? Their legacy simply faded away without a fight.
On the surface, the imagery points to an alien teacher arriving on earth after the apocalypse and finding no life. But knowing Kerry's affinity for religion, I presume it's about Jesus
I agree with those about Jesus, He keeps knocking but they are too busy in their own thoughts, desires and earthly pleasure that their not listening and have missed out on the eternal blessings He wants to give them. The violin brings inner tears from deep inside me. (Its kinda cool also that I met Kerry briefly before their popularity exploded as they recorded Leftoverture in my small town of Bogalusa Louisiana at our still standing Studio in the Country!) ❤????
