Lounge (Closing Time) Lyrics

[Chorus]
She was going with a cinematographer
Never knew that he was really a pornographer
They went down to the dance and grind
And everybody was feelin’ fine

She was talkin’ with syllable lisp
And everybody she knew was gonna get the twist
And they all went down and did a porcupine
And everybody was feeling high

You are so hot
I would like to steal your digits
And I'm so hung up on it
I would like to move away from it
We are so caught up with things
We should pull each others’ triggers,
And I'm off

She was going with a cinematographer
Never knew that he was really a pornographer
They went down to the dance and grind
And everybody was feelin’ fine

She was talkin’ with a syllable lisp
And everybody she knew was gonna get the twist
And they all went down and did the porcupine
And everybody was feeling high
(You thought you were smokin’)

I've got a girlfriend out of the city
I know I like her, I think she is pretty [x4]

[long instrumental part]

(Last call!)
It's closing time
It’s closing
It’s closing time

It’s closing time
It’s closing
It’s closing time

It’s closing time

I'm on the road to God
Don’t know my brain's the burger and my heart's the charcoal [x2]

It's closing time
It’s closing time

Well, what I see in this song is....

There is the guy that is the bad influence. The pornographer, he took her to a club. Everybody was happy and pro'lly on drugs. ("Everybody was feeling fine.") She felt good too, ingorant to the fact that the male figure in the song was going to try and take advantage of her. She proceeded to do some herion. Then the guy worked his charm. ("You are so hot, I would like to steal your digits. ...we are so cuaght up in things. I think we should pull eachother's triggers.") When the club is closing it's time for them to leave. She's pro'lly coming down and she regrets the whole thing. She doesn't know whats happening in her life, and where she is going. ("I'm on the road to god don't know.")

Thats just what I get out if it.

drug use in a modest mouse song?? never. (sarcasm) but yeah i would say this probly about heroin and hookin up. "and everybody was feelin high."

Love this song, I didn't even realize the heroin references till I looked at the comments on here. But I think it can also be interpreted in a metaphorical sense. The guy who's really a pornographer could mean that he acts all nice and flattering to women, but really just wants sex (like me and my friends.) And doing the grind, acting like we feel fine and getting high, all that are things that me and most of my highschool are a part of, and I think it's something that American society is centered around today, to an unhealthy degree. And I know I'm a hypocrite since I go out to those dances with my girlfriend and all the stuff that follows, but that just shows how accurate Brock's lyrics can be in describing our culture today.

I think this song is about a girl whose boyfriend is getting her high on heroin ("they all went down and did the porcupine") then films her in porn videos ("They went down to the dance and grind "). She hasn't told anyone about it, yet ("And everybody she knew was gonna get the twist") The lines "I've got a girlfriend out of the city" and "I know I like her, I think she is pretty" could be written from the perspective of the girl's boyfriend who lives away from the city and doesn't know she's having an affair with the pornographer and could be there to convey that in modern times, even those closest to you know nothing about you. At the end of the song, the girl is very depressed, and doesn't know what to do ("I'm on the road to god don't know / My brain's the burger and my heart's the charcoal") and is either leaving a bar or is going to kill herself, possibly both ("It's closing time")

I always thought it was about a girl who was cheating on her boyfriend, and doing drugs with the guy she was cheating on him with.

"She was going with a cinematographer" (what he thinks) "Everyone knew he was really a pornographer" (everyone else knows the truth, that he's fucking Isaac's(?) girl. pornographer is probably just a clever rhyme)

I'm not gonna go through all the lyrics but you catch the drift.

when it says everybody she knew was gonna get the twist- what is the twist?

twist mean that she is gonna get screwed. I don't think the syllable lisp means she is stupid because Isaac has a lisp.
