Temptation Inside Your Heart Lyrics
I think the background voice (is it Sterling?)represents the temptation and evil inside your heart that causes you to do the wrong thing when you try to make it right because he seems kind of mischievous and like he's causing trouble and Lou keeps telling him to get out. Maybe it's saying that temptation and evil can actually be funny if you don't take them too seriously. This song makes me laugh.
I think they're just mucking about! But it's great fun. Who IS the other voice, anybody know for sure? It always sounded like John Cale to me, but I don't know when it was recorded so he might have left by then.
I agree that they were probably just mucking about...the voice is Sterling, I'm pretty certain, definitely not Cale, unless he was doing an NY accent just for the hell of it (he's Welsh..) Oh, and I always thought it was "razor's edge", not "razor's itch".
I can't for the life of me figure out what it's about but I love it anyway it's very fun.
I'm pretty sure that is Lou answering himself...Anyways..'Electricity comes from other planets' is a great line!

The references to Motown reflect their attempt at doing something in that style. I like to imagine that they tried doing it seriously, then just fell about with laughter about how silly it sounded. Seems to me that VU was an incredibly unique band that couldn't figure out why they weren't played on the radio, so they finally made an album called LOADED, (as in "loaded with hits,") but still couldn't pull it off, because... (drum roll) they just couldn't escape their own wonderful weirdness. Late 60's radio wasn't ready for them.
