This Is Getting Over You Lyrics
today i woke up, younger than i've been in years.
not concerned with what's outside and peers,
i don't have any.
no one is my equal because i'm the king of rain.
controlling with my mood swings, threw a thunderstorm your way
drowning girls is a game i play.
today i woke up, more awake than i have felt in years.
not concerned with anything, no tears,
i'm done with that shit.
no one is your equal because you're the queen of pain.
controlling with my moods, i'm staring at my shoes while running away
drowning myself is a game i play.
drown myself away
drown myself away
goodbye
and this is getting over you
and this is getting over you
this is getting over you
If only you could actually get over someone in the time it takes to listen to this song... Love sucks.
There are two main themes in this song: Alcohol and Denial. Obviously this song is about a break-up. Dan starts by trying to convince himself that he's better of without "you" (today I woke up younger than I've felt in years). But his thoughts quickly shift to the the subject of the break-up he's trying to avoid thinking about as he recalls how he contributed to the demise of his relationship by being too sensitive (controlling with my moodswings, threw a thunderstorm your way) He goes on to say "drowning girls is a game a play" which suggests that this sort...

Dan starts by trying to convince himself that he's better of without "you" (today I woke up younger than I've felt in years). But his thoughts quickly shift to the the subject of the break-up he's trying to avoid thinking about as he recalls how he contributed to the demise of his relationship by being too sensitive (controlling with my moodswings, threw a thunderstorm your way) He goes on to say "drowning girls is a game a play" which suggests that this sort of behavior is all too common the Achilles's heal in his relationships. The songs continues into the second verse in which Dan sings "today i woke up, more awake than i have felt in years" in a much higher and louder tone, which suggests that he's desperately trying to convince himself that he's better of without being in that relationship. But, like before his mind shifts back to the relationship, thinking about how she hurt him (you're the queen of pain). In response to these thoughts he begins to drink singing "drowning myself is a game I play" which suggests that drinking is how he handles most of his problems. As he continues to drink he repeats this line until he doesn't care anymore and declares "goodbye" At this point, the song progresses to my favorite part in which: the lines "this is getting over you are sung while matt repeatedly proclaims "I'm not tired of being alone" This repetition is him convincing himself that he'll be okay. The "i'm not tired of being alone" gives this part of the song a sarcastic tone while the repetition contributes to the theme of denial. What an amazingly written song.
Yeah, I agree that would be great if you could be over someone by the time the last note was strummed in a song. This song is so great. It perfectly reflects the mood that you go into after a break-up. It's almost like you are catatonic with pain. It's like it hurts to bad to cry and if you do cry, you know that you will never be able to stop. It's a horrible feeling. You know both of you are experiencing the same amount of pain. You know it is the pain that you have inflicted. (I am the king of rain) you know that the the other person has hurt you too.(you're the queen of pain). The whole experience is a sucky one, but in the end I guess it's worth it. It's better to have lost in love than to never have loved at all.
psh....sometimes i really doubt that saying. but im fickle and doubt everything at some time or another. great song.
this is the perfect song to this guy that i liked for 8 months...nothing at all happeneed cuz, well, hes an asshole.
anyone curious to what theyre sayin in the backround at the end? i am.....
"Im not tired of being on hold, Geting along Being alone"
i think? help me out here
sweetygal - i agree with most of what you said but i think that it is not exactlly true that both people are hurting the same. in my experience the person who calls of the relationship tends to hurt a little less. if at all. i do love this song though
this is a beautiful song.....
I don't think he's gotten over 'you'... Anyone else see the simple incongruity?
it's like, in my opinion, love doesn't alway sucks...when two people really love each other is just great but it's rare to see this...at least my last experiences were all with fake feelings, illusions!
i agree with you, sweet.
