The Mamas & the Papas – Creeque Alley Lyrics 22 years ago
alas i am young and do not understand most of the referneces in this song and cannot explain them to you. from what i understand it's about the folk music culture in the 60s. mama cass is the fabulous mamas and the papas member who sings such songs as dream a little dream of me. she died of a heart attack in the early 70s. :(

The Mamas & the Papas – California Dreamin' Lyrics 22 years ago
it's more than pretty it's sort of melancholoy. i think the person is in new york dreaming of sunny warm LA imagining all his/her problems would go away if he/she was there. ahhh the grass is always greener....

i personally like rain a lot and prefer cold to hot but hey thats just me.

I also think it's a metaphor for some other dreams . for love and fulfillment and success. "the preacher likes the cold" suggests this to me because a preacher is somebody who gives up the "sunshine" for the "cold" of self restraint and self denial.

Something For Kate – Before Butterflys Wings Lyrics 22 years ago
Like so much of s4k's best stuff i think this song is disillusioned with our modern media driven, electronic world.Shows how people who don't even realise they are disolussioned turn to superstition (staring into teacups) and the meadia rather than talking to actual people.
then the song reminds us of the theory that a butterfly flapping it's wings can affect the world in a huge way. all the conventions of modern society could be brought down by a butterfly like THAT (clicks fingers) hmm.. maybe

Something For Kate – Big Screen Tv Lyrics 22 years ago
hmmm... it's so much easier to get the feel of a song from listening to it than reading it's lyrics without music. but as i listened this album to death and still put it on at least weekly i'll have a go. I have always thought that this was speaking against the media and what todays society sees as immportant: big screen televisions, front row seats... It sounds like somebody is not entirely convinced of the importance of these things (one can assume the somebody is paul dempsy) the birds are still louder, the weather the colour the dreams ... these things are real.
