Obviously that song has a meaning, as I am sure all their other songs do, they just want us to figure it out, I guess. At first I thought it was about mushrooms in terms of the drug, but watching the video, with all the violence, people being killed by the government, and the atomic bomb at the end, I think it is about the government and how they are not really connected to reality and just sit in their rooms all day getting angry and ordering people to go kill whoever they are mad at. | |

The education system educates, and science is the study of everything. Of course there are some, maybe many, corrupt educators and scientists, and there are many just ones as well. They are just people like you and me that went to school and are educated at the study of whatever type of science they choose. But, the government and organized religion are "bull shit" as you say, at least in my opinion. As for education, I can see why you might believe it tries to control us and keep us in order just because everyone has to go until a certain age, but what in it makes you think they are trying to control us? I don't know about you, but I have never been to a class where they say that "the government is good" or anything like that, they have just educated me about the system and let me decide... but, that is me, maybe you were mistreated by the education systems. |

Okay, several people have gotten the meaning of this song correct. Wang, SolarSky329 (though you did not realize that he is trying to say it to us, his listeners) great job, you got it right. Why must people put a religious or patriotic twist on EVERY FUCKEN SONG!!! Only a few of their songs are about those things, so stop being stupid and thinking that just because he is talking about making the forest turn to wine/sand it is about Christianity. He probably just uses lines like that to get the stupid Christians to believe in him and not realize that they are actually going away from their beliefs. Listen to suite-pee and you will see his thoughts on Christianity. Anyway, as Wang said, this song is telling us that he has taught us all this stuff in his lyrics, and he wants us to proclaim to everyone in the world that "we are [his] child" and believe what he believes. All I can say is that I believe and have faith in SoaD, especially Serj Tankian, and I would follow him to the end. |

| The SoaD website does not list lyrics to a lot of the songs they do, including Innervision, Chick-n-Stew, Johnny, Metro, etc etc... so this is not conclusive evidence that they did not do this song... as for the radio show in which a band member said that they did not do it, that is great evidence, but you need to have a link to the interveiw in audio format so we can hear it, or otherwise prove it to be true. This song is so powerful even though it is hard to figure out. Keita is correct about what Daron said, and certainly death, or more specficly, suicide, is one of the underlining themes in this song, and probably is the theme, actually. When he says, "Father/ Into your hands/I/commend my spirit, Father, into your hands, Why have you forsaken me, In your eyes forsaken me, In your thoughts forsaken me, In your heart forsaken, me." This is a very powerful part of the song, and it gave me the chills the first few times I heard it, and I am still not sure exactly who he is refering to, though I think that he is talking about an actually father, even though this is close to the Christian religion when Jesus is in the same situation on the cross. You do not have to be religious to feel the emotion of being forsaken by your father. Though I do not know exactly what this song is about, it is very powerful. |

So what if his ideas are communistic. If we could live in a communist world without people being selfish, it would be great. People just look down on communism because of its misuse in other countries. Are you saying that his idea to live as "A brotherhood of man" is something that we should not strive for? Lennon sings of peace, and having a God has NOTHING to do with peace. You can not prove the existance of God, and even if you could, you could definitly not prove that he plays any role in our world. Obviously, if God was omniscient, omnibenevolent, and omnipotent, as most religions claim he is, then there would be no suffering in the world for good people; but suffering does happen to many people that are good, just look at Princess Diana, so this kind of God does not exist and possibly none does, at least not one that does anything but perhaps observe us. It is people like you, obviously needing your possessions and God for support, that make his ideal unrealized. |

Some people have been saying that the drum part does not sound like SoaD and that the voice is not Serj's. Well, obviously the drum part is different than normal because they are keeping the beat of the Legend of Zelda theme, and I have been a diehard SoaD fan for the last 3.5 years, and it sounds like Serj to me. | One of the main points of this song is "Science has failed our world. Science has failed our Mother Earth." The term "Mother Earth" is, at least how I have heard it, used to talk about the earth in terms of the living things on it; trees, animals, etc. What many people consider to be the greatest scientific achievements are weapons of war such as bombs, jets, battleships, etc.. and the only thing they do is destroy our Mother Earth. SoaD is about peace and at the end of their "Big Day Out" concert in Australia, Serj said, "We have fallen asleep as animals on this planet. We are here to nurture our planet. We are here to help garden this fucken place not destroy it for Gods sake!" At the end of a live concert I went to last year, they played Imagine by John Lennon. SoaD members obviously use drugs, so I do not think they would ever sing that you should not do them, but I think in this song they are warning you to "never get stuck in the sky," menaing, I think, don't do them so much that you are in a constant drug state and never do anything else but get high and do pointless things. | |

In this song, I think that the ships are the working class, and the lightpost is the one, or few, that controls them. Post hypnotic suggestions, probably from the lightpost, run the ships ashore. The lightpost then turns on its light and soon will proclaim itself a god. If you ask any questions, it will turn of its light and the fog will surely chew you up. In the end, the working class keeps multiplying and soon overtakes the lightpost. |
