Eminem – Hailie's Song Lyrics

This song is very sweet and sad. Especially the line that says "My insecurities could eat me alive." I think Eminem's fans should respect and appreciate the fact that he is willing to be so open in the name of his art. Few artists would dissect themselves the way he does in this song and in the album in general. |

Liz Phair – Flower Lyrics

I am quite fond of this song. Most of it is self-explanatory - and I mean REALLY self-explanatory. But I think these are very good lyrics; in fact they are so good, and so painfully honest and relatable that they hold up the integrity of the song. In another artist's hands, this song probably would have come out sounding terribly raunchy, but with Liz Phair, that doesn't happen at all. I especially like the lines "You act like you're fourteen years old/Everything you say is so/Obnoxious, funny, true and mean"...well, I guess that's all I've to say. Where are all the other Liz fans?!?! |

Dave Matthews Band – Crush Lyrics

Shakespeare said: "Shall I compare you to a summer's day?"
Dave Matthews said: "Could tomorrow be so wondrous as you there sleeping?"
Which one's better? Laugh if you will, but I say it's a tough call, and honestly, I'm more inclined to go with Dave. Because if Dave Matthews is not a poet, I dunno who is. No one writes about love the way he does, and this song is definitely a testament to that. If you can listen to this song and not want to be desperately in love, your heart must be made of steel. This song just FLOORS me every time I hear it. Unfortunately, I have never heard it in live performance, but then again, who knows...it might just be too much for me to handle. |

Dave Matthews Band – #41 Lyrics

All the interpretations you guys have suggested, I've heard at least once from a number of sources. Honestly, I don't know what this song is about, but I kind of prefer it that way. The way I see it, the unknown element just adds to what makes this song so amazing and makes it speak to people on such a personal level. But if I had to pick a favorite DMB song - and I'd definitely be hard-pressed to do so - this just might be it. Lyrically, musically, emotionally, it just doesn't get much better than this. |

311 – Eons Lyrics

I totally agree with you hurleychick, 311's music has so many positive messages without being too sugery or "poppy" - which is rare. I absolutely love them. They're the kind of band that will never get so popular that they'll end up compromising themselves. |

Pixies – Where Is My Mind? Lyrics

There is something unbelievably hypnotic about this song. "It's a great stoner song" to quote a friend of mine. Very true, but also a great song for those days when your mind is just up in the clouds somewhere. |

Alien Ant Farm – Movies Lyrics

You gotta appreciate the ability to make a decent song out of one big running analogy, and this song is so much better than decent. The lyrics are really sincere, which always scores big points in my book, and the song's got a great hook. Good stuff. |

Saves the Day – Rocks Tonic Juice Magic Lyrics

Every time I hear this song it is just like hearing it for the first time. There is just something about it, the brutal honesty of both the lyrics and Chris's voice, it just grabs you and doesn't let go until the very last chord. I could write all day and never do justice to how great this song is. So I won't try. |

Portishead – Glory Box Lyrics

This is an honest and well-written song about a woman in a relationship who is frankly just tired of love being so complicated - she is ready to give her heart away and "leave it to the other girls to play" (great line). She wants her partner to try and see things from her side - "So don't you stop being a man, Just take a little look from our side if you can." His inability (or perhaps unwillingness) to do so is stopping her from just being able to love him the way she would like to.
This is a timeless relationship song that far too many people aren't aware of. Certainly any woman who's been at that point in a relationship where things are starting to look very bleak can sympathize with Portishead's heartfelt lyrics. Also, lyricism aside, this is one of the best-sounding songs I've ever heard. The descending melody of the bass, the shimming strings, the distortion, and Portishead's voice - it is ALL just fantastic. I really love this song. And I always thought it would be great to give a striptease to. (Wink, wink). No, but seriously... |

Nirvana – Where Did You Sleep Last Night (Lead Belly cover) Lyrics

I swear this song gets better every time I hear it. It is AMAZING. Kurt's voice is just so incredibly raw and heartfelt - it's like he's bleeding inside and you can hear it in every sound he makes. When he pauses near the end after the word "shiver" I actually do shiver, every time. He was incredible. |

Natalie Imbruglia – Smoke Lyrics

This is a fantastic Natalie Imbruglia song. "Torn" was cute and I liked it a lot, but this song puts "Torn" to shame - vocally, musically, and emotionally. This song just has so much meaning behind it and there is so much conviction in Natalie's voice as she belts it out. |
