Bloc Party – Hunting for Witches Lyrics | 17 years ago |
so given the apparent meaning of the song, I think the intro is brief clips of news reports about the terrorist attacks. I can't tell, but it would make sense. what do you guys think? |
Her Space Holiday – Japanese Gum Lyrics | 17 years ago |
no, you're a slut. |
Brand New – Jesus Christ Lyrics | 18 years ago |
Before I post "what this song means to me" i just want to vent and say i am tired of reading 85 posts about what people think the lyrics are (which usually repeats a dozen times) Second, I also don't like hearing about how people's interpretations are idiotic or how "if you knew the artist, you'd know that's not the meaning". Art (weather it be music, painting ect.) is open to interpretation and it doesn't matter what the artist originally intended. Once the art speaks the artist should be quiet. So now for my take: Jesus Christ, that's a pretty face The kind you'd find on someone that could save - to me he is saying that "on the surface", Jesus fits the profile of a savior. If they don't put me away It'll be a miracle - love the pun With nobody in your bed The night is hard to get through - we've all been in bed, lying awake battling with the idea of a divine entity. Without strong faith, these nights are hard to get through Jesus Christ, I'm alone again So what did you do those three days you were dead? Because this problem is gonna last More than the weekend - after Christ died he was sent to hell for three days before the resurrection. At that time he was detached from God. He seems to be saying his nights with an "empty bed" are more numerous - The rest of the song reminds me a lot of the Grand Inquisitor chapter from the Brothers Karamazov. God has presented us an out through salvation in Jesus Christ but we are not "someone he can't trust" because our "dark" is so great we will never accept Christ and we will "nail him back to the cross" . The Jews denied Jesus as Christ and nailed him to the cross for claiming it. "we all have [our own] wood and nails" and are in a sense nailing him back to it by denying him as Christ or at least not be worthy of salvation. |
Sheryl Crow – Is It Like Today Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I am not sure if it is a remake or not, but to me the song is about God looking down at his creation through time and asking himself how he could have let the world get away from him. |
Rocky Votolato – Suicide Medicine Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Modest Mouse – Bukowski Lyrics | 21 years ago |
it could just be me, but does anyone think this sounds like the pink elephants song from Dumbo |
O.A.R. – Crazy Game Of Poker Lyrics | 21 years ago |
As far as the Ja thing goes, he does say "jahova" in the live version but he could have just added that later. If you want it to mean Jahova thats fine, and seeing as how he DOES CLEARLY SAY JAHOVA, i think you would have a desent gripe. I thnk it adds a nice touch. I refuse to believe that the song is simply about drinking and a game of card. To me its more like a biography about a guy who keeps giving his all but coming up a little short every time or gets screwed somehow. A full house isnt a bad hand at all, but he got screwed w/ the royal flush. Johny to me represents the person who got the break but pissed it away. the "clown". All in all its biography. you could probably twist the words around however you want to make it fit one similar to yours, only later to find that everyone on sm thinks your interpretation is stupid b/c you made it personal. If you want to interpret a song differently then me, by all means go for it. In fact I would love to hear it. Remember, like lit class, there are no right answers. I am not going to ridicule you for taking liberties to make the song apply to you. |
Yellowcard – Ocean Avenue Lyrics | 21 years ago |
To themeaningoflife's complaint about fighting about stuff not pertaining to the song. There is no forum for just talking about the band in general and it is not unrealistic that people want to. they have chosen to post about the band on a song that is a) currently being played on MTV and will attract the most general conversation and b) were the meaning of the song is obvious. I do find it annoying when people put "this song is awesome, I love YC" and that's all, but I feel in this case, weather you agree w/ them or not, your complaint is unmerited. I think it would be great though if sm started a forum for talking about the band in general. Oh, and to please you, the song is probably about a relationship he left either to tour or when they moved from Florida to Cal. |
Modest Mouse – Float On Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Modest Mouse did change thier sound a bit to make thier songs more "radio friendly". This is obvious weather you like the cd or not (I personly do, but on a different level then thier other cds). Is thier title of the cd supposed to convey this at all. Could --good news for people who like bad news-- also be read as ---good "music" for people who like bad "music"-- |
Howie Day – Karma Police (Radiohead cover) Lyrics | 21 years ago |
shouldn't it be (phew) for a minute there, anyway its not that big of a deal Incredible cover, i think its better then the original. He sings the last few lines with alot more passion then radiohead did. |
Howie Day – She Says Lyrics | 21 years ago |
The version with U2's one lyrics in it is incredible. He sings it with such passion. I think it adds to the songs sence of he loves her but it just isn't working out. |
U2 – One Lyrics | 21 years ago |
I agree with U2takemehigher. I thing the song was written vague enough so that it could apply to many different things and not just egh one thing. Also Howie Day covers this song too and I think his version is incredible. |
Stir – New Beginning Lyrics | 21 years ago |
i actually think conyerk is right. I think its true story about how his girlfriend went lesbian on him. |
Yellowcard – Ocean Avenue Lyrics | 21 years ago |
Well i wouldn't call being popular nessisarily selling out. There are plenty of bands who become popular, but never comprimise thier individuality and style. I think when bands give up a large portion of thier creative controle for money, is when i consider a band a sellout. I heard MGM is realy bad about doing that. As for YC, i couldn't really tell you weather they sold out or not. Thier new label is Capitol who host alot of very popular bands, ala Radiohead and Coldplay, that i do not consider sellouts. |
Death Cab for Cutie – Transatlanticism Lyrics | 21 years ago |
i agree i think this song is incredible but what i think makes it more interesting in that tiny vessles leads into this song. Are the two suposed to play off each other? |
The All-American Rejects – The Cigarette Song Lyrics | 21 years ago |
this song is really good, and your right, it is about a break up, he wants to get back together but he doesn't. I really like how he uses "windows closed" instead of door or something. It shows that he can still see in, but just can't go in. |
Howie Day – Beams of Light Lyrics | 22 years ago |
what the hell? So is there some deaper meaning that I am not getting? |
Guster – Barrel Of A Gun Lyrics | 22 years ago |
I didn' know this was even their song. I thought it was cover. |
