Relient K – Must Have Done Something Right Lyrics 14 years ago
Good gravy what a great song!

Love the upbeat happy music and the obscenely happy lyrics! Its a song about what everyone wants: Someone totally awesome to call their own. Someone who makes them happy, who makes them want to be a better person. :-) I have felt that way in my life before, and I am sure that I will again.

I hope everyone feels this way at least once in his or her life. Its such a glorious feeling to be in love.

Musically I especially like the way certain parts of the song are sung

"And I know that it's so cliche
To tell you that everyday
Spent with you is the new best day of my life
Everyone watching us just turns away with disgust
This jealousy they can see that we've got it going on"

and

"And I know that it's so cliche
To talk about you this way
But I'll push all my inhibitions aside
It's so very obvious to every one watching us
That we have got something real good going on"

It reminds me of another song, but I cannot think of what it is for some reason. Regardless, what a great song. ^.^

They Might Be Giants – No One Knows My Plan Lyrics 14 years ago
Clearly, he's an evil genius. He made the mistake of telling the protagonist his plot, which was then foiled. Now he has a new plan, and he is not telling anyone.

No one understands his genius.
No one knows his plan.
This time, he is keeping it to himself.

But soon, they will all see it!
Soon it will be too late to stop him!
And then, EVERYONE will see his true GENIUS!!

MUAH HA HA HA!!!!

*grins in silence*

Do you know this from experience?

It seems a bit presumptuous to say what does or does not exist in heaven. Perhaps fashion is silly to you, but it is serious to others. It is an art form. It is a means of expression. It is a method of communication about who a person is and the life a person lives.

Maybe there are fashion shows in heaven.

Blue October – Congratulations Lyrics 14 years ago
Oh god... this is my nightmare.

I dated a girl on and off for five years. She made me happy every time I was around her, even her voice cheered me up. She was my best friend, though I don't think she realized it. Long story short, I stupidly ended it, tried to move on, even got married despite it being doomed from the start. Stopped talking to the girl I loved for a couple years.

Now that my marriage is behind me, and all the feelings I buried have come back to haunt me. She is with someone now. We occasionally chat but rarely anything significant. I have a nightmare where I see her before her wedding day and she pretty much says "hey, you had your chance with me, and you fucked it up."

If that dream had a soundtrack, it would be this song.

Hmmm... I *could* kill him...

Man do I love this song! It brings back some great memories. Admittedly, I was 19 and she was 17, but damn. If only I could go back ;-)

To be honest, even this song does not give her justice. I was young and in love, but too damn foolish to know how deeply I loved her. Hell its 10 years later and I'd chase her to the ends of the Earth for another chance to be together, but things don't work that way, do they?

On the radio, all I could understand was the phrase "He cares for you like no one else" which initially made me think about a boy who loves a girl more than any other guy but she does not see it.

And then I looked up the lyrics and went "Ah, He = God. Well that changes the meaning a little bit"

lol. good song.
but it still makes me think about a girl. but then everything does.

Bad Manners – Special Brew Lyrics 15 years ago
the two lines:

"everyday when I say, that I'm not gona take anymore
it's ok, don't go away, I feel bad when you're closing the door"

and

"I don't care, when they stare, at the way that i'm always with you
we're a pair, it's not fair when they say we're a special brew!"

remind me of past relationships. not giving a damn what other people think and being happy with my girl, despite her faults and our fights.

The Kingston Trio – Seasons In The Sun Lyrics 15 years ago
Oops, my bad. This song is actually the English language translation of the song "Le Moribond" by Belgian singer Jacques Brel. The original French version contained references to the infidelity of Brel's wife. It was written as a final goodbye to his friends and family.

The Kingston Trio covered this in 1963 on their album "Time to Think." Terry Jacks recorded his version in 1974.

I may post a more-detailed explanation of the song on the Terry Jacks version. If so I will add another comment here.

They Might Be Giants – They'll Need A Crane Lyrics 15 years ago
This is certainly a break up song, though not necessarily about divorce. I am going through a divorce right now, and yeah it definitely describes it pretty well. It is not a hateful divorce, just a difficult one. Before we even filed for divorce my wife had a fiancé. Maybe I should be offended, maybe I should be insulted, maybe I should be angry. Yet I am not. No, I am more worried about her moving too fast and making rash decisions. Really, that's what this song is about... the relationship is over, but we still care about one another. I want her to be happy. I want her to be successful. I do not want to see her in a bad relationship.

This isn't the typical breakup song. The couple in it has become so intertwined with one another that they need heavy machinery just to separate their lives.

I spent the last three years living my life for my wife. Now suddenly she is gone, and I am left with a house of good intentions that I need to tear down. I cannot move on with my life until I tear it down and let go of all the emotional baggage associated with it.

As I said earlier, it is not just about divorce.

I played this song a lot in 2005. I was in an on/off long-distance relationship for 5 years, and it had just ended. It ended because I am an idiot. I was an absolute idiot. I wanted to spend my life with her, but was not able to see myself dropping my life "here" to move "there." Biggest mistake of my life. I only ended up with my wife because I fucked that relationship up.

Now I look back with everything that I know, at the mistakes I made, and there is not a god damn thing I can do about it. I never tore down the house from the first relationship. The way I feel has not degraded a bit in the past 4 years. So I relate to this song, and to tearing down the relationships I once had to move on with my life. I am someone who lives through his music. I had sincerely hoped I would never find this song on my playlist again. Yet there it is... reminding me of current tasks and past mistakes.

I think I might be rambling... but I am going to post this anyways.

Cabin – Cover Your Eyes Lyrics 15 years ago
There is another, less literal, meaning that I get from this song.

Trying not to lose faith in a relationship or a partner. Perhaps I am just projecting my own life onto this song. I just see someone who is finding inconsistencies in what is being said and what he or she observes. The person wants to trust and believe in his or her partner, and does everything possible to ignore evidence suggesting otherwise.

submissions
Cabin – Cover Your Eyes Lyrics 15 years ago
This is such a powerful song. http://tr.im/iNxP

I relate very closely to it. First is the literal interpretation of a man who is searching for his faith, wanting to believe in something that he simply cannot. There is this expectation to believe in God despite the complete lack of empirical evidence. I have trouble with this, even if I want to believe. I have several close friends who are strong in their faith, be it in a Christian God or in spirit stones and Reiki (spiritual healing). They know what they believe and they truly believe it. They will profess their beliefs to anyone without hesitation or doubt. I am not that way. I have great trouble believing in something when there is a lack of scientific, testable, repeatable empirical evidence.

I see the joy, strength and satisfaction they get from their faith. For my friends, it is real, they feel and experience it. Their lives are enriched by their beliefs and they are part of a larger community who share those beliefs. I WANT that, but I cannot have it. I cannot have it because I am wired to need evidence.

So where does that leave me? Talking to a God/Being/Power/Consciousness that I do not believe in, asking for forgiveness because i do not believe in It. Telling It that I try to live a good life, be a good person, and that I will keep trying to find evidence of It so that someday maybe I will be able to believe.

"Your only concern: 'Is there life after this?'
Am I worthy of earning my wings?
Is there room on the list for someone who needs to see proof you exist?"

"I'll be on the fence until you stand up and take credit for this;
The truth is, I'd rather not know;
I'll pray that the rest will make up for all of the days that I've missed"

This song also brings to light that its unfair and unjustified to be expected to believe in something that insists on hiding itself. Thomas the Apostle said he would not believe in the resurrection of Jesus unless he saw the wounds in his body, and he was given proof. Why are not all other humans privileged to such evidence?

"But I'll keep asking why; Because you can't hide from the world by covering your eyes"

This line is saying despite not finding anything yet, he is going to keep looking. Regardless of what people say, he is going to keep looking. Christians say to believe without evidence, but he still seeks that evidence. Atheists say the lack of evidence shows God's non-existence, but he still searches for God. He is going to keep searching the rest of his life because he is not satisfied by simply covering his eyes to all the questions that cannot be answered.

That's where I am.
