The Kingsmen – Louie, Louie Lyrics | 9 years ago |
It was meant to be recorded as an instrumental but at the last minute they decided to sing the lyrics. The lyrics are less than clear because it was recorded with a single microphone dangling from above. |
David Gilmour – There's No Way Out of Here Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I think the song is about making a decision and seeing it through even at the risk of ones well being. Be careful what you wish for because you have to live with it. That's my feelings about it. From 1968 through 1971 David was very helpful when it came to getting Syd Barrett to record in the studio after Floyd left him. He witnessed the struggle that Syd went through trying to express his thoughts, and although this was extremely frustrating for everyone involved David certainly was privy to the difficulties Syd lived with. And it shows in the lyrics which are about David as much as Syd. "When you come in You're in for good" After agreeing to help Syd in the studio David realized it was going to be a battle to complete the album. Perhaps he felt he bit off more than he could chew. He never ended up completing his third album even with the help of David who was worn out by that time. "There was no promise made The part you played The chance you took" Both David and Syd wanted to be in the band but Syd really disliked the fame. Sometimes we don't know what we are getting involved with until we are knee deep in it and can't easily get out of it. Life is about weighed risks. "There are no boundaries set The time and yet You waste it still So it slips through your hands Like grains of sand You watch it go" Sitting in the studio with Syd and not getting anything put on tape must have been defeating for David. Syd was unable to play the same thing twice making it impossible to record with the entire band. Essentially, it was wasting time even trying because sometimes it wasn't going to produce any desired results. This could also be aimed about David being frustrated with Roger and PF, and having to wait to play his lead/part. "There's no time to be lost You'll pay the cost So get it right" Time in the studio is costly. So you make every minute count when recording because you're paying for it no matter what you produce in the end. |
The Moody Blues – In The Beginning Lyrics | 9 years ago |
In the beginning the man acknowledges his existence. He represents knowledge and science. The "Establishment" is trying to lure the man into a mechanical and computer generated world where people only interact through devices and real human interaction is at a minimum. The establishment represents the elite. They benefit from conformity and willful ignorance. The "Inner Man" is simply the mans inner voice which represents consciousness and existentialism. The theme of the album is dreams but also free thinking (the forming of ideas and opinions independently of authority, religion, and current common views). |
Jim Croce – Which Way Are You Goin'? Lyrics | 9 years ago |
The song is about the arrogance, apathy, hypocrisy, and fundamentalism of religious ideology. (Apathy) "Will you stand and watch while all the seeds of hate are sown? Will you stand with those who say 'let his will be done'?" (Hypocrisy) "Do you say what's wrong for him, is not wrong for me?" (Arrogance) "You walk the streets, righteousness but you refuse to understand" (Hypocrisy, Anti-Abortion but Pro-Death Penalty) "You say you love the baby" (Fundamentalism) "Now its let him live in freedom, if he lives like me" |

Jim Croce – Tomorrow's Gonna Be A Brighter Day Lyrics | 10 years ago |
This song basically gets down to the roots of a relationship through conversation. The man explains to the woman that he know's going through life with him hasn't always been easy and in fact sometimes have been very trying. And even though things can be difficult at times and you may not want to continue down this road trust me when I say that tomorrow's going to be better. I promise. Out of all of Jim Croce's songs this one displays Jim's real demeanor, in my opinion. |
The Cranberries – Dreaming My Dreams Lyrics | 10 years ago |
It seems to be about when she found out that she was in love with this person and that the realization came from a conversation they had. What he had said made an impact on her and at that point she decided that she would no longer be the unattached woman going out looking for love because she had found it. |
Bob Dylan – One of Us Must Know (Sooner or Later) Lyrics | 10 years ago |
@mistyhayes is correct. Edie Sedgwick grew up on a ranch in California. Not a farm in any sense. This line does refer to Edie considering they were dating around the time. |
The Beatles – A Day in the Life Lyrics | 10 years ago |
"He blew his mind out in a car" The car crash is about Tara Browne whose father was part of The House Of Lords. On 18 December 1966, Browne was driving with his girlfriend, model Suki Potier, in his Lotus Elan through South Kensington at a speed over 100mph. He failed to see a traffic light and proceeded through the junction of Redcliffe Square and Redcliffe Gardens, colliding with a parked lorry. He died of his injuries the following day. "I saw a film today oh boy. The English army had just won the war" John was in the film, How I Won the War which was about an inept British WWII commander who lead his troops to a series of misadventures in North Africa and Europe. Both the movie and song were released in 1967. "Woke up, fell out of bed" This part was written by Paul and it describes a typical day for him when he was a teen living in Liverpool. He often took the bus around town because of the proximity of the bus stop being but a few feet from his home. "I read the news today oh boy. Four thousand holes in Blackburn, Lancashire" John had read in a newspaper that there were enough holes in the local roads to fill the Royal Albert Hall. Four thousand holes, to be exact. |
Donovan – Celeste Lyrics | 10 years ago |
From the lyrics we can tell he is feeling foolish in a sad kind of way and that he doesn't wish anyone to be going through what he currently is. But is ain't so bad because he's 'just a lad', implying that it's just a stage he's going through. He still has a positive attitude when discussing his troubles with her and says 'I intend to come right through them all with you'. He spends and evening with a girl, possibly Celeste, and stays up almost until morning with her having a lengthy conversation. By dawn he's still awake and reflects on what he learned about the girl. Not long ago he was feeling down about his current situation and was left feeling sorry for this 'strange young girl', this 'dark princess with saddening jest' and 'eyes of woe'. And although he was struggling with his predicament he wouldn't exactly trade his situation for hers. He was grateful she was willing to listen to him and allow him to get what was bothering him off of his chest. At the same time he hopes he was able to do the same for her. |

Listen to it with headphones! You'll thank me, |
Bob Dylan – Roll On John Lyrics | 11 years ago |
It is without a doubt about John Winston Lennon. It's painfully obvious. Sadly John was shot in the back after signing a few autographs in front of his home at the Dakota building in New York. Buffalo, Dakota the land where they roam and the Dakota apartment block outside which Lennon was ambushed and shot. The last verse is a nod to William Blake. |
Bob Dylan – Million Dollar Bash Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Million Dollar Bash was written in 1967 only a short time after coming home from the arduous touring of Britain that started in '65 and ended in '66. Although Bob was married to Sara Lowndes at the time he also was romantically connected to Edie Sedgwick. She is the big dumb blonde" that the first line of the song refers to. Her modeling career had just blossomed in '65 when she was given the title of "Girl Of The Year" and rumor was she ended the relationship with Dylan in '66 which displeased him. A close friend of hers was Andy Warhol and he employed her as an actress/model. The Factory was the name of Warhol's New York City studio where the in crowd gathered. During this period Andy Warhol was very successful. His fame was beginning to peak and the fact that he had recently made his first million was thoroughly discussed in the newspapers. Warhol always had a very bad case of acne and scars were always present on his face. The "cheeks in a chunk" is a reference to him. The Million Dollar Bash is a reference to the Factory parties which Dylan certainly would have been invited to. The rest of the song is an exercise in lyricism. |
Bob Dylan – Pay in Blood Lyrics | 11 years ago |
The song is introspective. The first line explains that. He mentions circling the Southern zone which is obviously about touring. Dylan has fathered several children and a few of them were illegitimate, hence the line "If you could only prove who your father was". He speaks about his tumultuous life and endless touring which has taken its toll: "How I made it back home, nobody knows". He's "been through hell". The talk of "this nation must be freed - accused of murder" is a reference to warmongering within the political system. The refrain "I pay in blood but not my own" is another reference to those that gain from war. He pays in blood because that is the new currency. Or has that always been the currency? |
