Coldplay – The Scientist Lyrics 9 years ago
This song is about a man who is studying within the broad field of Science. If i had to guess, it would probably be zoology or oceanograhy. He's studying for an exam (hence the "nobody said it was easy / nobody said it would be so hard"). He clearly hasn't studied enough ("i was just guessing, numbers and figures") and feels he's stuffed up the first question (hence "take me back to the start").

Anyone else thing the singer sounds like a creep?

Radiohead – A Wolf at the Door (It Girl. Rag Doll) Lyrics 11 years ago
A musical version of The Three Little Pigs story. Apparently from an as yet unreleased concept album of nursery tales and fairy stories. Their interpretation of The Gingerbread Man is supposed to be heart-breaking

Radiohead – 2 + 2 = 5 (The Lukewarm) Lyrics 11 years ago
The title is incorrect. I just checked on my calculator and the answer is 4. Amazing how some mistakes just go unnoticed.

The Beatles – Do You Want to Know a Secret Lyrics 11 years ago
Lack of question mark ruins it. Rock music is nothing without correct punctuation.

To give you a bit of insight, Stan is a name generally used as a shortened version of Stanley.

Eminem – Like Toy Soldiers Lyrics 11 years ago
Shouldn't this title have a question mark? But in response, yes Eminem i do like toy soldiers.

submissions
Eminem – Cleaning Out My Closet Lyrics 11 years ago
What i like about Eminem was he rapped from the heart - and wasn't afraid of writing songs about completing menial household chores.

Nirvana – The Man Who Sold the World (David Bowie cover) Lyrics 11 years ago
This is about a man who sold the world. Despite the fact he had no justifiable legal claim to the world in the first place. For me, the question is more, who bought the world from him?

submissions
Nirvana – Something in the Way Lyrics 11 years ago
This song is about that all too common situation when something is in your way - like a traffic cone or a bollard

submissions
Nirvana – About a Girl Lyrics 11 years ago
I heard a rumour this song is about a girl.

submissions
Eminem – Ass Like That Lyrics 11 years ago
A song about miscommunication when trying to order a donkey, a theme not explored nearly enough in rap music

submissions
Arctic Monkeys – 505 Lyrics 11 years ago
Rivals The Beatles's 909 as the best 3-digit-number-based rock song

submissions
Green Day – Jesus of Suburbia Lyrics 11 years ago
This is about a famous man from history called Jesus (Christ was his surname, if you want to look him up). He was in this book called The Bible (there's two editions - Old and New Testament - Jesus is in the sequel)

Green Day – Boulevard of Broken Dreams Lyrics 11 years ago
I actually live near the Boulevard of Broken Dreams and i have to say the parking is a joke. And the council have actually started charging to park at night - madness!

submissions
Green Day – Brain Stew Lyrics 11 years ago
A song about a guy called Brian Stew - but a spelling mistake was made in the lyrics booklet and the band kept up the pretence

submissions
Green Day – Basket Case Lyrics 11 years ago
A song about the casing used inside baskets. The singer is well known for lyrics which drop interior decorating tips.

submissions
Green Day – American Idiot Lyrics 11 years ago
A song about an idiot that comes from America. Wish i could tell you more about this idiot but the lyrics are too vague and not specific enough.

submissions
Green Day – 2,000 Light Years Away Lyrics 11 years ago
Didn't like the title - maybe because i'm a metrical kind of guy. I think "1.89210568 × 1019 metres" sounds better

submissions
Green Day – 21 Guns Lyrics 11 years ago
A song about guns - more than 20 of them. Personally i would have liked less guns

submissions
Mumford & Sons – Lover of the Light Lyrics 11 years ago
This song is a musical biography of Thomas Edison. Was originally part of a concept album Mr Mumford and his children were working on - "Great Engineers and Inventors of the Modern Age".

submissions
Gotye – Somebody That I Used To Know Lyrics 11 years ago
This song is about someone Gotye used to know. He doesn't mention the persons name - which kind of ruined the song for me. My guess is she's called Jenny or Susan

submissions

A passionate love affair between two terrorists

submissions
The Lumineers – Ho Hey Lyrics 11 years ago
this is ok, but i preferred the original "Heigh Ho" by the Seven Dwarves - that had more meaningful lyrics

submissions
Mumford & Sons – I Will Wait Lyrics 11 years ago
It's like when you go to the hairdressers and ask if they can cut your hair. They ask if you have an appointment and you say no. They say they can fit you in about 15 minutes. You say "i will wait". Pretty sure that's what this song is about

submissions
Mumford & Sons – Below My Feet Lyrics 11 years ago
Well done lads - there's not nearly enough rock and roll songs about feet - one of the most under-appreciated parts of the body. Usually singers bang on about their hearts - Mr Mumford and his various sons choose to pay tribute to the far more practical feet

submissions
Coldplay – Viva la Vida Lyrics 11 years ago
What i love about this song is the fact it has a Spanish title but the words are in English - absolute genius. Well done Coldplay for knowing some Spanish

submissions
Ed Sheeran – The A Team Lyrics 11 years ago
About a Netball player in the school A team. She's suffering great mental anguish because she just missed an easy shot. Probably my favourite netball-based song ever

Elliott Smith – King's Crossing Lyrics 11 years ago
Possibly the most heart-breaking lyric ever committed to tape in rock history. It's impossible to not read between the lines and see this as an extended suicide note. Brilliant imagery showing that Elliott was one of the greatest poets of his generation, as well as an amazing tunesmith.

Elliott Smith – Whatever (Folk Song in C) Lyrics 11 years ago
Come on people. This is his most explicit song about drug use. It's not about sex or alcohol. "To use" is only ever used with drugs. It's probably why this was never officially released - usually he was much more poetic and hidden in his drug references. What i like about this is the groundbreaking dark lyrics he combines with such a traditional conservative folk melody. It's typical of his sardonic sense of humour and irony that he gives it such a flippant title.
