I have wondered two things about this song. Is the line "Tried to believe but you know it's no good" a comment on Neil's atheism, and a desire to believe in an afterlife? As an atheist who recently lost a family member, my atheism was painful, but belief is not someone one can turn on or turn off. I have also wondered if anyone else hears in the line "Skiing fast through the woods" as onomatopoeia, the representation of a sound by an imitation thereof? Listening, the "ski" and "fast" often remind me of the sound of skis on snow. |
