U2 – The First Time Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I think this song isn't about one person, but three different cases of people who once suffered or are suffered from feelings hopelessness, depression and guilt/shame/regret finally finding Love in different forms... for the first time. Also, I noticed the framing of time in each case as it regresses the point where which the narrator(s) reflects: First, there's the man who feels love for the first time from a Lover. Even despite his persistent feelings of hopelessness, his Lover continuously re-affirms that it truly is Love he feels. This story is framed *after* the narrator felt love for the first time. "Gives me hope when I can't believe that for the first time [from so long ago] I feel love." Second, there's another person who feels love for the first time from a brotherly figure. During their bouts with depression and "going down", they realizes their 'brother' has always been there for them. However, "but" now, he feels love for the first time. The story is framed in the present tense. It takes place at the point where he understand he feels love for the first time. "When I feel myself going down, I just call and he comes around; but for the first time [this time] I feel love" The final story is referring to a person who feels guilt and shame despite the love of their 'father' and is presently living in crippling regret for their actions; notice how the narrator "left by the back door' as one would who flees in shame. The narrator is feels he is irredeemable "and I throw away the key". The song then plays like the passage of time, when some time in the future he truly feels love for the first time - and is redeemed by his father. |

Agreed. Well said. Especially the last sentence. My thoughts exactly. No sarcasm. |
Freestylers – Cracks Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I like to think that "Leave the past behind" means to say read the lyrics backwards. Looking back. So the cracks begin to show, your heart breaks, when it's over, just walk away and leave the past behind. |

Don Henley – The Heart of the Matter Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Ultimate reconciliation. We hurt each other, we love each other, life goes on. Hate dies, Loves lives forever. Please forgive me for your sake, not mine; as I have forgiven you for my sake not yours. (^_^) Even if, even if you don't love me aaannyyymmoorree. |

U2 – One Step Closer Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I understand that the intention of the writer was to express a sense of death and dying; but I like to interpret this song as a love song, specifically what is going through a man's mind when he buys is a engagement ring for his love or simpler - when he decides to tell her he loves her. The lyrics, I think, takes on a deeper meaning: --This is about LOVE-- I’m ‘round the corner from anything that’s real I’m across the road from hope I’m under a bridge in a rip tide That’s taken everything I call my own One step closer to knowing One step closer to knowing --This is about the realization that it's LOVE-- I’m on an island at a busy intersection I can’t go forward, I can’t turn back Can’t see the future It’s getting away from me I just watch the tail lights glowing One step closer to knowing One step closer to knowing One step closer to knowing Knowing, knowing --This is about his FEAR-- I’m hanging out to dry With my old clothes Finger still red with the prick of an old rose Well the heart that hurts Is a heart that beats Can you hear the drummer slowing? One step closer to knowing One step closer to knowing One step closer to knowing To knowing, to knowing, to knowing |

The lyric is: And I found myself in a bitter fight When I felt your hand through the darkest night Don't know where your coming from But your coming soon |

"The more things you get, the more you want Just trade in one for another Workin so hard, to make it easy" Best part! Love it! |
Moby – Great Escape Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is about a woman who has been hurt by Love over and over again. Even as she tries to bind up her heart, she is waiting for it to, inevitably, happen again and uses Houdini as an allegory for her heart. |
Charlotte Martin – The Dance Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This is one awesome bit o' music! When I hear this song I think of a girl in a superhero story. The girl dislikes the hero's alter ego as she thinks he's immature, irresponsible and cowardly since he doesn't seem to stick up for himself. On the other side, she's fallen in love with his super hero identity. This song follows her discovery of the true that the two are one in the same. The typical and obligatory complications ensue. |

The song is about, IMO, two people who have known each other all their lives and while life moves them away, they always find themselves back together. It's about all the failed attempts they tried at relationships with other people; about all the opportunities they missed for them to be finally together and the opportunities they intentionally passed up because of fear or some other trivial reason people use to run away from Love. I think. |

I think she's saying that even though she should hate him for leaving her and not loving her anymore, she can't. |

Atlantic Starr – Secret Lovers Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It's real life and really is messed up. The reason the song seems for foul is because it's sung and arranged so beautifully. It's funny because whenever I hear it I try to re-interpret the meaning into something like a Romeo and Juliet kind of romance. It works until the part "we both belong to someone else"; then I'm like, "Damn. Ah well, adulterous sinners!". Haha. |
