Alice Cooper – Poison Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is about being in love with someone but knowing in the back of your mind that they will hurt you:

"I want to hold you but my senses tell me to stop..."
"...I want to kiss you but your lips are venomous poison"

Like they've hurt you so many times, yet you can't get enough. It's like a feeling of being trapped, and there is no way out. This song is so awesome, but so sad :(

Foo Fighters – Best Of You Lyrics 14 years ago
Dude that sucks. That's exactly what I think this song is about. The same shit happened to me and it broke my heart. I felt like I was her fool.

Foo Fighters – Everlong Lyrics 14 years ago
This is one of those songs that doesn't mean anything, yet to each individual person, it means everything. Everyone has their own interpretation and their own story of the first time they heard it and their own special someone that they're singing about when they sing along. But the central theme is, that special moment you're thinking of, you wish it would have lasted forever. It makes you feel happy and sad at the same time. That's what makes this such an amazing song.

Dinosaur Jr. – Freak Scene Lyrics 14 years ago
I always thought it was about a guy and a girl who are friends. She wants to be more than friends but he doesn't think it's a good idea because it feels weird to him. So he finally tells her that a relationship is not what he wants because he likes just being friends. ("Cause when I need a friend it's still you")

Puddle of Mudd – Blurry Lyrics 14 years ago
I definitely think this is a break up song. And it's obvious from the music video that there is a child involved in this break up. But it seems like he's torn inside. The transition from verse to chorus is like his transition from dysphoria and sorrow to resentment. He's depressed that he can no longer be in her life when he says "my whole world surrounds you" and "you could be my someone, you could be my sea." But then he becomes filled with rage when he thinks of how badly she treated him and all the negativity after the break up (most likely from keeping his child away from him).

Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics 14 years ago
It's just devastating when someone you've invested so much of your love in decides that they would rather be with someone else ("I know someday you'll have a beautiful life..."). You feel like you have no more love to give and that there's no point of living if you are not able to love again ("Oh, and twisted thoughts that spin round my head")(Yes, he does contemplate suicide). That's what Eddie was feeling when he wrote this song. I'm such a pussy. I cry every time I hear this song on the radio. It's gotten to the point of where each time I hear those first few chords I have to immediately change the channel. It always brings back memories of someone that I've used all my energy trying to forget. The problem is that it's kind of hard to forget someone when you still see them everyday (alongside that person they decided they would rather be with).

Stone Temple Pilots – Creep Lyrics 14 years ago
I think the meaning of the song is all in the title. It's about how being called a creep is such a blow to one's confidence and self esteem. That's why he says "I'm half the man I used to be"

Alice in Chains – Bleed The Freak Lyrics 14 years ago
A lot of songs that Jerry wrote are about one of his former girlfriends so I kind of always thought this was about a relationship. Like maybe she broke up with him because she realized that he's not good enough for her. So he feels like a "freak" and wants her to see what it feels like. I don't know...

The Offspring – Self Esteem Lyrics 14 years ago
I'm tired of everyone saying things like "He's doing it to himself" and "He should just leave her" and "He likes the abuse" and "He's using her for sex". Obviously he enjoys the sex, but that's not why he's with her. He's in love with her and feels like the only way she'll stay around is if he gives in. He's miserable with her but he's even more miserable without her. And he doesn't like the abuse, he just accepts it because he feels like it's better than nothing. That's what it's like when you have no self esteem. The most important line in this song is "Well I guess I should stick up for myself But I really think it's better this way" because for some people, being abused truly is better than being away from someone you love.

The Offspring – Self Esteem Lyrics 14 years ago
It also sounds a lot like "Little Things" by Bush, which came out the same year. They both begin with the chorus and have just the base line and drums during the verses with the guitar coming back in for the pre-chorus and chorus. The two only have a slightly different chord progression. "Self Esteem" is A5 F5 C5 G5 and "Little Things" is A5 F5 C5 D5

Metallica – The Unforgiven II Lyrics 14 years ago
I agree with many of you. I always thought the story was a continuation of "The Unforgiven." The first one is about growing up and getting treated like shit your whole life. And then finally you're just like "fuck this shit. I don't deserve to be treated this way" so you never forgive those people in your life. Then, in the second one, you finally meet someone that's been through the same shit as you. You begin to fall in love but you're not sure if you can trust that person given everything you've gone through ("The door is locked now, but it's open if you're true" "Behind the door, should I open it for you"). But once you let her (or him) through the door, you realize what a bitch she (or he) is because she treats you like shit too ("Black heart scarring darker still, but there's no sun shining through") so you decide that she's unforgiven 2 (too). Many of you said that in the end he decides to kill her. I'm not sure if this is what James was going for, but the lyrics make a lot of sense. "Lay beside me, tell me what I've done The door is closed, so are your eyes" He uses the door as a metaphor for trust again saying that it's closed now. And "so are your eyes" might mean that she's lying beside him dead. "I take this key And I bury it in you Because you're unforgiven too" This means that that you are burying the key to the door along with her because you don't feel like you can trust anyone anymore, so you're not going to open the door for anyone ever again. You feel like an idiot and you feel betrayed and filled with pain, so you're never going to let it happen again.
This is one of my favorite Metallica songs. Many of their songs are about death and destruction (which I do still like) but this one shows a deeper and more meaningful side to James's songwriting. And I do take this song personally.
