This is a reference to the book of revelation, the last chapter in the new testament. this talks of an apocalypse. the seven swans refer to the seven seals: * First Seal - Conquest, White horse * Second Seal - War, Red horse * Third Seal - Famine, Black Horse * Fourth Seal - Death, green or pale horse * Fifth Seal - Vision of martyrs * Sixth Seal - Earthquake and the marking of the 144000 * Seventh Seal - Trumpets of Angels and the end of the world "seven horns, seven horns, seven horns" *see seventh seal. "all of the trees were in light" this also appears in the book of revelation. i cant remember it of by heart but i think it mentions when john is shown the seven seals that second seal will bring fire and all of the trees and fields will burn. now im not sure about sufjans heritage but in the part referring to his fathers body burnt to coal, i think this is talking about the sixth seal. only 144000 will be saved as witnesses of gods power. witnesses.... is sufjan jewish? or even still is his mother jewish? if so both his mother and himself will be saved and his father will burn in the lake of fire with the other none belivers. well there is more but its all in the bible. the whole album is based on bible stories most of the time coupled with sufjans reflection on his own life relating them to the bible stories. as for the story befor his live performance, i thought that it was to add drama and simply to relate to how he felt the end of the world would happen. thanks |
