This song is poetic description of panspermia. "Down to the earth I fell With dripping wings" A comet carrying life falls to Earth. "And the sky might catch on fire And burn the axis of the world That's why I prefer a sunless sky" In the past Earth was HOT, save eventually for the ocean floor where life first had a chance to form. "I feel so light This is all I want to feel tonight" The chorus acknowledges that weight is a Newtonian concept, discarded by General Relativity where Gravity is NOT a force. As well as Quantum Field theory in which all known matter and energy are "light" waves. "Gleaming in the dark sea I'm as light as air Floating there breathlessly When the dream dissolves I open up my eyes I realize that Everything is shoreless sea Weightlessness is passing over me" Life evolves from the ocean to see and to know significant amounts about the size of the universe and general relativity. "Everything is waves and stars The universe is resting in my arms" In Quantum Field theory energy is a wave and matter is captured energy. Stars build hydrogen into helium and large star deaths and star collisions explode sending matter out into space providing the heavier elements necessary to form our rocky world and for life to arise. Singer is all about a sturdy foundation for relationships. Bass is a foundational element of music. The other instruments are nice but need to be anchored in an ensemble. Novel way of pointing out judging by looks is shallow. Secondarily, historically instruments like the bass and tuba are designed larger to get those low notes. So this song works on that level as well. |

No way. I was saddened to see zero references to the shaker movement in all the comments thus far despite obviously references to dancing in order to shake out evil. Shaker dancing includes twitching and writhing as displayed in the music video. Also the line 'it's hard to dance with the devil on your back' is lifted from 'Lord of the Dance' a hymn based on the 1848 shaker song 'simple gifts'. |

'So what' makes perfect sense in the context of the album. It has plenty of meaning, again in the context of the album. Funhouse starts off with this song on track 1. But the album makes the following progression: Denial->Anger->Bargaining->Depression->Acceptance. Your comment is attacking Pink for ever having felt denial. |

This is a good song. And in the context of Funhouse, a great way to start the album. the whole album is about her relationship problems and how they progress. This song is a tongue in cheek way of telling the audience that her attitude and actions were a big factor. Pink knows this isn't the way a good person should conduct themselves. But that doesn't mean it didn't happen. People are fallible. Where is it written that a song can't be about feeling narcissism? Or anger? Or petty jealousy? On Funhouse There is a song for each of the five stages of grief as well as illusions to alcohol abuse, depression, fair-weather friends, and relapses of the aforementioned; even contemplating suicide. At the end of Funhouse Pink comes out on the other side with hope and love in her heart. A singer/songwriter doesn't necessarily believe every word as a long term conviction. This song is represents a moment in time. The beginning of the journey that we are invited to take with her. I love it. |

Yet, I still like being the object of your affections. Because I am not honorable, my intentions aren't either. We stay together for all the wrong reasons. Though I struggle internally, The flowers of evil are in full bloom within. I'm again in the low point of this vicious cycle. I act hurt in an attempt to show that I don't need love. The singer is questioning the direction his life has taken so far, attempting to decide if he should change course. “I want to tell if I am or am not myself ” The song is about a relationship that the singer ended that he hasn't let go of. The singer is single and unsure of his ability to love ever since. He still thinks his former lover is the best one for the job, if they would just change who they are. They haven't yet, wanting this is unrealistic, and he has lost perspective on the issue(s) between them. "I've waited far too long for something I forgot was wrong." The singer never conclusively assigns blame for the breakup. As the words “something I forgot was wrong” are too vague to discern if it was the lovers shortcomings or the singer wanting the lover to be something they are not. He remembers the good times in the past and tells his former lover that he will be theirs if they are willing to change, unless he should fall for another while they are apart. "Until I fall away, I won't keep you waiting long." The singer states that he believes there is nothing he can change to fix things between them. But, that the lover might be able to. So, he hopes and waits. "Until I fall away I don't know what to do anymore." Use of the word 'until' instead of 'unless' shows that the singer feels enough time apart will also be the end to his distress. The other statements in the song support these sentiments but provide little new insight. |

This song is not about suicide, sure if you only read the first stanza it might seem like that. But, I assure you after reading the rest, this song is about the passing of a lover. "I close both locks below the window. I close both blinds and turn away. Sometimes solutions aren't so simple. Sometimes goodbye's the only way." Singer has come home alone and shuts out the world. There's something happening he can't fix. He has come to terms with that and saying goodbye is the only thing left to do. "And the sun will set for you, The sun will set for you. And the shadow of the day, Will embrace the world in gray, And the sun will set for you." Someone's life is on the verge of ending, someone other than the singer but someone close. Hence use of the familiar third person. The world will see the singer again, he will have a mood about him similar to the color gray. Because his lover's death is imminent. "In cards and flowers on your window, Your friends all plead for you to stay. Sometimes beginnings aren't so simple. Sometimes goodbye's the only way." One of the most common phrases on a card is "get well soon." But, neither cards nor flowers are going to save this one. The singer does not include himself amongst "all your friends" because he is more than a friend. And he is powerless to do anything except say goodbye. |
