I agree, about young men fighting. The whole song is full of things that a young soldier would be told by a superior, presumably an officer or maybe (metaphorically) by his country. I love the sound of the gritty guitar, it just seems to grind and roll its way through the entire 5 minutes |

Some history: "But fate played a hand while he was in Amsterdam with the Trees and Homme met up with Dave Catching. Somehow they wound up with free studio time and wrote and recorded a song for the Roadrunner stoner compilation 'Burn One Up' (ironic as Kyuss virtually invented stoner rock but actually despised the term). The song was called '18 AD'. And after a brief dalliance under the name Gamma Ray, it was QOTSA's first ever song. I think the alarm refers to society and loved one's reactions to his death, but obviously it would no longer matter him. A self-inflicted wound, your Gift, Impeccable aim Can really clear a room All the bodies piled up in your way ^Pretty self explanatory. The "wound" is supposedly a gunshot, with "impeccable aim" seeing as you cannot miss when you are going to shoot yourself. I could keep you all for myself I know You gotta be free To kill yourself ^To kill yourself is, in a way, the ultimate act of freeing yourself. |

This song used to give me chills and make me a little scared. I love it when music has that profound of an impact on a person. As for the meaning, I think its pretty clear that it is about cannibalism. Thats how I see it at least. Amazing song. |

This is by far my favorite Qotsa song. Its just so beautiful and kind of intense in a way. This is MY interpretation: It is about growing and beginning to see flaws in society and in other people. This leads to a longing for something more, of which he doesn't know. Its about despair and how his life becomes "wasted" and "useless". I've lately begun to relate to this song, and I can't express how much I love it |
