i hope many people don't ever have to relate to the song the way i do, but being someone who went through a bitter divorce... i see it a totally different way. it's feeling trapped, and feeling like you're so far down in a hole that you'll never get out. it's hoping that you keep fighting, that bad things keep happening, because then at least you feel something. knowing that it's a bad situation, but not having the will to do anything about it. what cements it for me, is the part: And I'd hope that if I found the strength to walk out You'd stay the hell out of my way that's what really got me. |

from what i understood, she wrote this about the movie high fidelity. afaik most of her songs are not personal, at all. it's written about john cusack's character (or the character in the book as well), and it all makes sense. especially with the title "fidelity." |
