for some reason, this song reminded me of 'catcher in the rye'. i think it was the lines 'i shout that you're all fakes' and 'i guess that i miss you', that swung me over. in which case, it's ironic that it's called 'trailer trash' - perhaps saying that wealth can't by you the qualities of a good person. i do realise the rest of the song doesn't fit with this but anyway... |

saw vendetta red last night and this was one of the best songs they did. me and my friend talked to Zach afterwards and he was the nicest and seemed really honoured that we wanted him to sign our cds. it was just a shame that most of the rest of the crowd were a bit quite and didn't really "get" the band. but anyway, they totally rocked and i hope they come back to birmingham (that's birmingham, west midlands, uk) very soon!!! |

i love the line 'here's the things i meant, but i never said,' because i'm the girl who always bites her tongue. it reminds me of this guy i liked, but i never told him how much. i think he knew though, and used it. 'when happiness is based on lies, its so hard, its too hard to tell the truth'; i love that line. it's when you both know it's wrong and falling apart but no one says. there are a lot of very angry, bitter and sad undercurrents in this song, it's hidden underneath the poppy melodie. i think it's quite clever, people shouldn't underestimate TSL... |

this is in my top five all time favourite songs. (before anyone tells me, yes i should be living in 'high fidelity') it is completely and utterly beautiful. my favourite line is 'i drew a line, drew a line for you', which is not about drugs! i think it's about how you love someone so much that you draw a line no one else can cross and swear to love no one else again. i like to think of yellow as the summer sun, which colours the memory of this person yellow. the video is chris martin walking down a winter english beach. i like to think he's remembering the same place in summer. |

i love this song, lyrically and musically. i love the mock teenage angst of 'it's not fair, it's not ever close' to the utter perfect simplicity of 'it's never fine when you go away.' the whole 'like watching new born babies crack from work related stress' is one of the best 'trio lyrics ever. the whole studing in english class thing someone was saying earlier... well alk3 lyrics have been the titles for every creative piece i've done for the past two years. good job i don't have a punk rock teacher. |

i always thought it was someone's plea for a more exciting life. wanting to get out of the small towns and into the big cities. i also thought that the singer didn't know the person they were in the car of, like a hitch hiker, and the 'oh god my chance has come at last' was about losing your virginity in a one night stand with a stranger. i never got the impression it was about real love. i love the way such a strong line as 'there is a light that never goes out' makes me think of tacky neon nightclub signs. |

these lyrics are totally beyond almost anything else i have ever read. the song is just pure emotion. 'if we run far away, do you think we will ever die?' i always thought that was about loving someone so much you wanted time to stop so you could be with them forever. 'I shut my eyes when you're around/I hold my breath to kill the sound of your voice' i love those words so much. just the flow and the way geoff sings them, like it's the last thing he'll ever say. and then it just ends like that. amazing. |

i've heard the thing on five stories falling, but to me it's always been about a friend of mine who made some mistakes one summer, and nearly lost a lot of people she loved. 'driving in your car, miss the stopsign, fall in love' seemed to me to echo how she thought she liked this guy who she eventually realised caused nothing but trouble. 'we're betting on our own lives, make up for all time we lost' is about being in a hurry to grow up and forgetting about life. i know it's not what geoff meant, but thats my point of view. |

'my heart bleeds for what you never did until now'... i think this song is about a guy who's a total wreck and his girlfriend/friend stuck around for ages but finally had had enough and left him. he knows they did the right thing (because he's a screw up) but he misses them all the same. 'you came to me like a dream', seems like he doesn't think he's good enough for the person who left. anyway, this is a really amazing piece of lyric writing. i like the slightly detached way skiba sings it in the beginning, sort of like he's trying to make light of how hurt he is, but then at them end he's overcome with the sadness of it all. |

hmm... i don't get the whole drug thing... if it's about quitting why will it all be ok in 97? i'd be interested to hear the other lyrics though, anyone who's got them should post them. we could come to a more informed consensus. i always thought it was just a simple 'leaving on a jet plane' love song. there are all the travel motifs in there 'cadillac' 'drive it through' etc. this song sort of does bury itself inside you and come out when you least expect it. it reminds me of 'romeo and juliet', don't ask me why... |

i don't know what to really say, all the inciteful stuff seems to have been mentioned. though, i have to say it seems at the start of the song that the friend is trying to be understanding (i said i'd been there myslef more that a few times) but they get progressivey more sarcastic (i said maybe your a vampire), until they finally lose all patience with the person (don't forget to let your life rot you inside out)
i think the song is sung a while after the conversation happened. there seems to be a somber tone to it, so maybe the person did kill themselves and the singer regrets how callous they were towards them. |

hey, i'd just like to point out that this song still relates so much to the british music scene. there is so much dance music and "garage", not to mention the mindless identikit pop bands aroung that real music with proper instruments and lyrics that mean something rarely breaks through. one of the only good songs in the top ten took a car advert to get it there. without that it would have no hope of radio play. the sentiments in this song, such as 'the music the constantly play, it says nothing to me about my life' are felt by many young people today... |

i read somewhere that matt said the 'you won't catch me behind the wheel of a chysler ever again' lyric was because the girl the song was about worked at a chrysler factory. i always thought the song was about a guy who's only friend goes off with a girl called aurora, and he's so lonely he kills himself. (u have to be the cutest gravedigger i've ever seen.) |
