Taylor Swift – Red Lyrics 5 years ago
The color references are what drew me to this song the first time I heard it. The right lyrics are always powerful, but to tie it to colors so easy to see and feel in your head makes the lyrics all the more meaningful. The other comparisons in the lyrics are fantastic and easy to relate to certainly, especially the "someone you never met" one. Increasingly impressive to see how Taylor continues to write some Diane Warren level lyrics at such a young age.

Céline Dion – Water from the Moon Lyrics 5 years ago
Nothing quite like the eloquence of Diane Warren's song writing and the heartfelt power of Celine's voice. I hear mostly hear frustration and exhaustion. Feels like the last little bit of flame from the fire of their resolve is dying and they can't decide to give it more fuel or let it go out. Not sure if it's a good or bad song for someone nearing the end of their patience at three o'clock some morning asking themselves this question, but the emotion is so genuine at least you know you're not alone.

Faith Hill – If I'm Not In Love Lyrics 5 years ago

yep, the original version (and as much as i like Faith) is by Kathy Troccoli and it is far and away better. Way more touch and emotion. It actually feels like it's midnight somewhere and she can't sleep trying to convey this to someone. Great song nontheless, but Kathy's is the standard for sure.

Elton John – Bennie And The Jets Lyrics 6 years ago
While Sir Elton is certainly not at his enunciating best here, this song is about glam rock pure and simple. Bernie was thinking about artists like David Bowie and Gary Glitter AND even Elton himself when he penned it.

“Bennie” is a fictitious woman singer of a huge glam rock band as are the other make-believe characters in the song. Supposing any of these people in this recording are real is hilarious, like believing there was a real “Major Tom”, that “Jenny” ever answered the phone if you dialed 867-5309 or that Prince actually met Nikki in the lobby with that magazine.

Moreover, it is not about drugs of any kind.

An all-time classic rock song to be sure and from a fantastic album, but it has no mysterious meaning, just poor articulation lol

Unstoppable. Like the feeling of Love should be between two people. Brilliant song - her power and voice are a perfect match for that feeling.

Bobby Darin – Mack the Knife Lyrics 6 years ago
While an endless list of fantastic artists have covered this song, even old Blue Eyes, who recorded it too, said that Bobby Darin's is the definitive version, which it certainly is. Originally and hastily written for Die Dreigroschenoper/The Threepenny Opera about a murdering, rapist highwayman (Macheath), there's no denying it's a blast to sing along with, no matter the dark message.

Amy Grant – Like I Love You Lyrics 6 years ago
We all have scars. This song acknowledges what may have MADE the scars, and healed or not, that we all carry them with us. But he's lucky enough to have found someone who sees it, and decides to help, support and love someone through it. Past it. Wonderful song...

What a fantastic song! This woman continues to amaze with her song work.

What could be better than a woman giving you her unconditional love and support? Nothing in this world.

Céline Dion – It's All Coming Back To Me Now Lyrics 6 years ago
Amazingly stunning song, lyrically, musically - especially her version. I love both her and Meat Loaf - but hers is the definitive version. Just like his version of "I'd do anything for love (but I won't do that) will always be the gold standard on that one. If you can, "watch" her version of this powerful song on the new iTunes visualizer...perfection for that app

As poignant a message as someone could ever hear from someone they love. Just perfect.

George Michael – Waiting (Reprise) Lyrics 7 years ago
What mix of emotions in just two and a half minutes of music.

Exasperation (here i am!), wisdom from life (the road that I have walked upon... all those insecurities...) and taking a look at genuine look at yourself, healing pain and hope (there's a road without you) honesty about the two sided nature of relationships (you've hurt my pride) and mostly, love.

Like he's saying "i've done all you ask, all you wanted, I've proven my love for you, but I'm tired of "waiting"".

Eloquent, sad, and I think ultimately hopeful song, whether the other person comes back like they should or not.

Sheena Easton – Almost Over You Lyrics 7 years ago
Elegant and heart-wrenching song, with her honest and soft voice, saying that she's almost over him, which sounds more hopeful than actuality, but hope is better than nothing...

George Michael – Father Figure Lyrics 7 years ago
I always find it hysterical at the free time people with such simple and stunted minds appear to have. How do they have jobs? The people who hear this song as ANYTHING but an erotic and sexy song genuinely need some professional help.

What is initially obvious in some of these prudish and puerile comments here is what astoundingly BORING SEX LIVES some of you must lead. The track that follows this one on the album (even as dated sounding as it now is), must send you into convulsions or faint like delicate little flowers.

This song is clearly about a woman who wants/needs a Father Figure, not because there is anything wrong with her OR her lover, she just knows what she wants and believe me, she's a lot of fun in bed.

At a minimum it’s about a man taking care of a woman like her father did, so to the marginally male haters here, go take your balls out of your wife’s purse, trade in the minivan and try to act like a man again or maybe for the first time. Trust me, she'll love it.

Those who hear it through homophobic ears, as usual and as William Shakespeare said, clearly you all “doth protest too much, methinks”. Go back to your fraternity and again get out that initiation paddle that you all seem to enjoy so much.

And lastly, as a humble believer myself, I would recommend to those of you who continually seem to revel in chasing and judging this brilliantly talented, enormously charitable and kind man for imaginary crimes that he never committed, perhaps go read the New Testament especially Matthew 7:1, or perhaps take a hard look in the mirror occasionally. What a bunch of truly anti-Christian hypocrites.

If you do not appreciate his music, crawl back under the rock you oozed out from under and go listen to something else in that dark place you choose to live in that mobile home of yours.

Hall and Oates – Don't Hold Back Your Love Lyrics 7 years ago
Another forgotten gem from Daryl & John. It has a nice night-time rock feel, but with an easily identifiable message of no fear, hope and love.

How great is this for a "who cares what anyone else thinks, I love you and we are perfect together" message?:

"We've got something they all want,
It'll be their surprise.
And if you think there is no place to run,
Just hold onto my hand and face whatever comes..."

Great masculine love song.
