I'm thinking overall it is about sin, human nature & salvation. he starts out all wide eyed and bushy tailed with innocence and the hope of love, then becomes aware/diseased by earthly pleasures that are short and unfulfilling, yet he seeks them and idolizes them anyway (i.e. tequila sunrise). And he laments the fall of man into sin (from adam & eve) asking God why. verse 2 to me seems like he found salvation, as in he took the gamble to trust/ believe in God (learned from the Bible...ie ancient stories) and when he did this, he lost the world (being 'of the world') but gained a man (Jesus). but even when you have salvation and are no longer of the world, you still crave worldly things like the tequila sunrise |
