Bruce Springsteen – Glory Days Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Just a fun rock song about people as they grow old. They don't wanna tell boring old stories of their youth, but you gotta realize that those really are your glory days. Then you grow old, pay bills, raise kids, pay for their education, reitre, etc. But for those glory days, you just have fun. |
Bruce Springsteen – Racing in the Street Lyrics | 11 years ago |
It seems like this great tune has the classic Springsteen themes of the albums of the late 70's to early 80's. Despair and what one feels in terms of emotional pain. This guy races in the street, he meets the girl but soon both their lives are shit. Although it seems as though his life was shit before he meets her, seems like he uses racing in the street as a getaway from a bad job, life, etc. Near the end it seems as though he realizes the state his life is in, as he comes home to a girlfriend who cries herself to sleep, a dark house, a strained relationship. They go and "Wash these sins off of our hands" however at the end he says the highway's bright, and Summer's here and its time to go racing in the street. This shows common character confusion we see in other songs like Hungry Heart and Stolen Car. |
Bruce Springsteen – Born in the U.S.A. Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Much like a lot of people, when I first heard this song I was also under the impression that it was patriotic and joyful. It wasn't until I was 17 or 18 that I really understood it. He's talking about the country that he was born into, raised in, touted as the greatest in the world. He's talking about it in context to the Vietnam War. The character in the song has a brother and a lover of his brother, both whom are killed during this meaningless conflict. The lines "Down in the shadow of the penitentiary Out by the gas fires of the refinery I'm ten years burning down the road Nowhere to run, ain't got nowhere to go" show that these vets are living dead-end lives with little or no positive change in their future. Even the line where he talks about the woman and his brother "They're long gone" shows that some peopel really didn't pay any attention to the people returning from Vietnam. |
Bruce Springsteen – Dancing In The Dark Lyrics | 11 years ago |
my take on this classic tune is pretty much what everyone has been posting. A tired, restless, depressed man who yearns for a lover. His life isn't glamourous ("This gun's for hire") but much like in earlier songs (Candy's Room) he feels as though love could find him. |
Bruce Springsteen – Wreck On The Highway Lyrics | 11 years ago |
A song about the emotional strain and thought process that comes with realizing one's own mortality. |
Bruce Springsteen – Tunnel Of Love Lyrics | 11 years ago |
The amusement park is a metaphor for the ups and downs within a marriage. |
Bruce Springsteen – I'm on Fire Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Wow! a lot of comments on this one! I think it's about a teenage boy who wants a girl who is already commited to someone else. No pedophelia here. "Daddy" refers to that person she's involved with. The "6 inch valley" and "Sheets soakin' wet" represent the psychological torture he feels at times knowing he can't have her. Great song. |
Bruce Springsteen – Stolen Car Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Montresor is right, in my opinion. The "stolen car" is a metaphor for the isolation he feels after his failed relationship and the emotions he feels after it. He hopes to get caught ("Each night I wait to get caught but I never do"), but fears, and expects, to "ride by night and I travel in fear That in this darkness I will disappear" He fears total isolation from the people in his life. |
Bruce Springsteen – State Trooper Lyrics | 11 years ago |
My take on it- It's about a mysterious, dark figure that's just riding along the NJ turnpike. We know he's done something bad but we don't know what it is ("but I got a clear conscience 'Bout the things that I done") and he fears that if he is pulled over by the State Trooper, he will either kill him, or be arrested for whatever he has done, or something like that. |
