He hates the church? That's funny because he's commented that it shall always be a part of him. I couldn't find anything about him "hating" the church. Let's face it. Morrissey is far left. He's bisexual (if not gay); he's an animal rights activist; he's against war (and with good reason:); and he's one damned independent dude. He's peeved off many people, even being accused of being against immigration and against blacks. I don't believe Morrissey cares what ANYBODY thinks about him, but I also wish you'd provide support for your statement about him hating the church. Although he did attend Catholic school, I can't see where he hated it or where his parents were deeply religious. |

This song is NOT about sex. Morrissey is too creative and too brilliant a musician to make it that simple and blatant. He toys with the listener. He uses metaphors. He knows sex is the most fascinating subject to most humans, so he uses possible sexual references to peak our interest. This song is about Rome and him experiencing/feeling free there. The mention of the spreading of the legs is no different than the spreading of the pages of a book; a person opens a literary beauty and then immmerces his/her face within the pages. It's a liberating feeling when those pages contain a special beauty and hold your attention. For the creative lil' devil Morrissey, Rome did it for him. |

Where I lived at that time smoking pot was more common among high school students than drinking booze, but that didn't stop us from doing both! This song was on the best debut album EVER. |

I am so seldom correct that I'm gonna take that at face value and run with it :) As for playing the field, it's fine for single people who aren't in love. Once they are in a relationship, it's very painful to have been cheated on. It has never happened to me, but I have divorced friends who suffered much emotional abuse. |

Let me take a shot at this one since Terror is obviously terrifed of responding to my question :D It's about a guy who doesn't want (or is frightened of) committment. He's been out playing the field and knows his sins won't be forgiven by her. And he doesn't care (a typical sentiment by some who like to PRETEND they don't want or need anyone). As for Terror Guy below, if restriction means being in a monogomous love-filled relationship than bring on all the restriction! I doubt anyone (including any man) would say that he would prefer to have someone cheat on him with another. |

Let me give it a futile try: Both pebbles and marbles are collectibles. Years ago kids used to collect them for their colors and designs (marbles) and their colors and shapes (pebbles). Due to their size and often glossy feel, they were easily lost or misplaced. They'd often fall out of pockets even though we tried to keep them safe. The more we had, the more popular we were on the street. Also, women (long long ago) were compared to shiny pebbles. They, too, were special and unique and "collectible." |

The title is incorrect; it should read, Would You Lay with Me (in a Field of Stone). It's a most beautiful song by a brilliant artist; it deserves the correct title. It's a song about true love. And I believe he had June Carter Cash in mind whenever he sang it. Theirs was a very special union when in Hollywood and Nashville it's not easy staying together and truly staying in love. |

He's a player, at least in his own small mind. It's a sad song. He doesn't know love and convinces himself he doesn't care to know it. Many women (especially my age) have met these types of guys in bars. They're the ones we run from! If he were brighter, he'd know that the most passionate sex comes from love. It's when you allow yourself to be 'nude" in front of the other (emotionally nude) and you allow someone else to see you for who you are. No interpretations? Dang, this was the story of my life. It's about loving someone who doesn't return the honor. And it's about losing him/her. I was crazy about my best friend my senior year in high school. He was the state champion in wrestling and the captain of the football team. He was also very bright, which seemed unusual for star athletes. We were almost inseperable...until he got a girlfriend. I was floored. He had even taken me to prom. My world fell apart for what seemed forever. The irony is that years later (while in college) I returned home one Christmas to find him standing in my house talking with my father...with a gold necklace in his hand (a love knot pendant). He wanted to date me, only by then I had my first true love waiting back at college. The timing was off, only this time he was the one feeling left out in the cold. It's a good song...very simple but poignant. |

Nah...I don't think so. It's not a painful enough song to be about an abusive relationship. It lacks despair and pain and anger. It's about a relationship where for some reason the magnets often repel each other and it drives the person nuts. There's an energy they apparently share and their differences, at times, do not complement the other well. So there's tension, but always beneath that rough surface is a love that apparently just won't die. That's what is so frustrating...when you want to hate someone and kick them to the curb, but you know that as nutty as they drive you at times you still love them more than anyone else. |

Why is this song about a platonic friend? It sounds like love, which would mean they are best friends, but not in a platonic way. Most friends are not going to be lying on the ground in the dark behind a house as they look up at the moon. And most would not say that they don't wish to live without the other. Very few platonic friendships are THAT close. The song, to me, sounds as though it's about lovers who are actually in love with each other, so the best friend part is a given:) |

The lyrics are self-explanatory. Not a dude; don't have brothers; and my son is young so I am not fully aware of father-son relationships and their problems. I can only imagine it is similar to a mother/daughter relationship which can be very intense. Any disapproval from a parent who we love is most discomforting, but like many situations the son may very well view his father's acceptance of him as suspect when the father is not as dissatisfied as it appears. Men are not the best communicators (generally speaking) so the truth between father and son may have yet to be realized. |

OK, I have not seen the video and now I have no plans to because I prefer to think of this song as a purely sexual one. Rihanna does not have the best voice (that doesn't mean I don't find her talented), but this song to me is about fun sex. Nothing wrong with a little play acting between loving adults who may even have a sense of humor. I can imagine using some long black liquorice to tie someone's hands behind his back and then having my way with him :) |
