Over the Rhine – Latter Days Lyrics 21 years ago
This is such a beautiful song. It inspired a 10000 word story that I wrote over the summer...

I don't know what it's about, exactly. I've related it to so much in my own life.

Aerosmith – Janie's Got A Gun Lyrics 22 years ago
This song is about a girl being sexually abused by her father and eventually killing him.

I don't know if it's true, but I heard that this song was written by Steven Tyler in response to many survivors' groups getting angry at the video for the song Ragdoll.

Shouldn't it be "if I were..."?

I've always found this song incredibly unnerving, much as I love the band and the "Keep The Faith" album.

Oasis – Stand By Me Lyrics 22 years ago
But there is one thing I can never give you/My heart will never be your home

No one mentioned the last two lines. It's almost like he's saying that he wants her, but that she'll never be "in his heart." He wants her as an escape, a way to cope, but she'll never be the person for him to truly be with.

Just a thought.

The Murmurs – You Suck Lyrics 22 years ago
For me, it made a nice Father's Day song. You're right. It is liberating.

Graham Nash – Wounded Bird Lyrics 22 years ago
I think, though I don't know, that this song is about loving a woman who has problems, and realizing that simply loving her isn't going to make it okay, that it's going to take acceptance and understanding to make things work.

Or maybe I'm delirious from the heat. Could be either.

Orgy – Eva Lyrics 22 years ago
This song reminds me of someone I lost recently. "I'm not as fearless as you." Line gets to me. But this

Now they tell me that you're in a better place, but where did you go? And I swear sometimes you're watching over me, still I'd give the world for the chance just to see your face again.

is the best part of the song. Because regardless of what a person endured on earth, you still wish they were beside you.

Or maybe that's just me.

Amy Grant – All I Ever Have To Be Lyrics 22 years ago
People have to take responsibility for themselves...I accept that...But it's a nice comfort to think that God's taking care of everything...Like maybe our screw-ups are still okay...I know what I mean. Maybe I'm just looking for an out. It's a beautiful song.

Jeff Buckley – Hallelujah (Leonard Cohen cover) Lyrics 22 years ago
Kez: Yeah, the one verse definitely is that. Glad I'm not the only one to acknowledge that.

I saw parts of this song used in a video collage by vh1 after September 11, and it took on even more personal meaning after that. Then it was used in the season finale of the West Wing, very artistically. It's just a beautiful song, chock full of meaning.

Me too. Reminds me of this cycle I go through, emotional pain and times of feeling better, only to end up back here again...Wow, I sound like a nut. It's true, though.

Jimmy Eat World – Hear You Me Lyrics 22 years ago
To be honest, before looking at this page today I never knew the story behind this song.

I lost someone four weeks ago today. I'd known them for over a decade, and that's even longer when you're only sixteen. The part of the song that I really like is "a song for a heart so big God wouldn't let it live."

Robbie Robertson & The Red Road Ensemble – Unbound Lyrics 22 years ago
""I wanted to convey a spirit of no borders, no fences, without confinement to a reservation. The point is that it's not just a necessity in the Native way of life but in everyone's life." ~ Robbie Robertson

I live this song for that intentional meaning, but it can also be used as a love song, and I guess that's what it means for me personally. The same comfort and peace that is supposed to be derived from the land in the song I can see as coming from another person.

Either way, it is a very beautiful song.

P.O.D. – Abortion Is Murder Lyrics 22 years ago
Both the people to previously comment on this song are under the age of 29, which surprised me.
"...Every child born since 1973 knows that he or she could have been exterminated in his mother's womb with society's blessing. In other words, every American child knows that society considered him or her completely expendable. Anyone who believes that this does not cast life in a different light is, in my opinion, denying reality..."
-U.S. Representative J.C. Watts, Jr.
