Front 242 – Headhunter Lyrics 11 years ago
Anyone hear familiar with the phrase "corporate headhunter"?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recruitment
The lyrics are simply a clever bait-and-switch, the title leading the average EBM listener to conjure up images of tribal brutalism and then offering up a song about a corporate recruiter who's no less brutal.
Nice to see we got the inevitable sex-based interpretation though.

Basement Jaxx – My Turn (feat. Dev Hynes) Lyrics 12 years ago
The female vocals say "left in pieces" at one point - they're more audible here:

Incidentally after watching that performance the song seems a lot more romantic - perhaps they didn't lose each other after all?

The Mars Volta – The Malkin Jewel Lyrics 12 years ago
A little early to be analyzing these songs, no? We don't even know some of their names, let alone the correct lyrics.

Van Der Graaf Generator – A Plague Of Lighthouse Keepers Lyrics 12 years ago
Could "white bone shine" possibly be "lifeboats shine"? Especially considering the nautical theme of the piece...

Genesis – Supper's Ready Lyrics 13 years ago
In contrast to my previous reply, I'm going to hazard a guess that you are EXTREMELY Christian. You have to try and keep your own beliefs from influencing your interpretation of such a great song (though I understand it has a special meaning to everyone).

Genesis – Supper's Ready Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm going to hazard a guess that you aren't Christian. Though as you said - they "brought up in a conservative 1950's Christian culture". I doubt that Gabriel would just do one song based on eastern philosophy and never bring it up again.

The Chemical Brothers – Surface To Air Lyrics 13 years ago
I had thought that the line was "Please help make the world you're living in better". Though I suppose it's kind of hard to tell with the robotic distortion of the vocals.

The Chemical Brothers – Battle Scars (feat. Willy Mason) Lyrics 13 years ago
Probably some thinly-veiled commentary on the state of the world, although unlike Left Right the lyrics are actually good (I love the instrumentals for both though).

The Chemical Brothers – The Pills Won't Help You Now Lyrics 13 years ago
If I recall correctly, the Chems mentioned in an interview that this song is about being old and in a rest home, and there definitely seems to be grounds for that in the lyrics, which definitely sound like they're about drugs but fit this interpretation really well (i.e. "they gave disappointments in life", as in, your life is nearing its end and you've been abandoned here by the ones you love). The "pills" in this case would be the residents' daily meds, which may help with their physical ailments, but which can never alleviate the sadness they feel being alone in their last years.

The Chemical Brothers – The Golden Path Lyrics 13 years ago
Yeah, that was pretty much my idea about the song. The "Golden Path" is the course of his life, and things keep getting in the way of his dreams - personified in the song as various monsters and in the music video as office appliances. Basically, he's become a person he never wanted to be, hence "help me Lord, I've found myself in some kind of Hell". In the end, he simply stops caring about what other people think and decides to be what he wants to be, in the process undoing his "spiritual death" and finding the "shining answer from the womb". The repeated line at the end may be related to some love he had to abandon to conform to society (maybe he was a former hippie like the above comment suggests?).

Tiga – Good as Gold Lyrics 13 years ago
EDIT: Just read the comment section for "You Gonna Want Me", so this is confirmed: Tiga's girlfriend is Tiala Brown. This was definitely written for her.

Tiga – Good as Gold Lyrics 13 years ago
In the answering machine message hidden at the end of the album, Tiga's mom mentions someone named Tiala in a manner which seems to imply that she was someone close to him, possibly his girlfriend. Regardless, this was probably written as a tribute to her.

Tiga – 3 Weeks Lyrics 13 years ago
That makes a lot more sense considering the hidden outro to the album - an answering machine message from his mom. I had always assumed he just did it as a little “bonus” for her, but if she really is dead, then it was probably a lot more than that, especially considering you can hear him say “bye Mom” at the end of the message.

Emerson, Lake & Palmer – Karn Evil 9: First Impression Lyrics 13 years ago
I'm sorry, but it's hard to take someone who capitalizes words that frequently seriously. To each his own, though.
