Emilie Autumn – Opheliac Lyrics | 13 years ago |
(Urrgh, damn enter key.) I love this line, because the lines preceding.. "Don't think for a beat it makes it better When you sit her down and tell her Everything gonna be all right She knows in society she either is A devil or an angel with no in between" ...leads you to believe she's talking about something else, but she's just a depressed girl trying to forget that she's herself. I thought it was cute, in a morbid sense. XD |

"She speaks in the third person So she can forget that she's me." Lol! I |
Yoko Kanno – Medicine Eater Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Oh boy. These aren't real lyrics... it's a made up language. I've heard the song, and I must say it's pretty creepy. Which is exactly what I think the meaning is. The song was made to be creepy, and mysterious. You can barely even hear the singer in the song... she might actually be speaking a language... probably not. Yup. That's all I have. |
Nick Drake – From The Morning Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Despite the widely accepted idea that this song is about life and death, and enjoying life while you can... I dunno... I don't get the feeling of that from the song. I know in my mind that that's what it's about, but... I have the image of me sitting on a porch of a house by a lake very early in the morning smiling and eating cereal with my pet greyhound sitting on the ground beside me or something... lol. I tend to put myself in the singer's place when I listen to songs, just like when I read books. It just has an incredibly calming feel to me... there's just something about this song. It's one of the few songs I never get tired of. No real interpretation here... I just wanted to rant positively about it. :) lol |
Enya – My! My! Time Flies! Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Pretty simple song. Different moments in time... when we think about them now, it's like it was no time at all (because we never lived through it). It tells us to look to the future, and disregard what has already come to pass. It makes me laugh because this album came out in 2009 and it's already 2011. My! My! Time really does fly. :) |
Enya – Ebudae Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Enya herself said in an interview or something (I can't recall where) that Ebudae was created from the styles of whistle-while-you-work type songs, like women sing while working around the house and tending to daily business. The idea of women singing while they work is nearly universal... in Ireland, Scotland, America, China, Germany, Poland, etc... It's easy to imagine that in my head when I listen to this song... a mother with her hair in a bun and a plain-looking dress humming a tune to herself as she scrubs a garment against a washboard as her children play nearby. |
Enya – Wild Child Lyrics | 13 years ago |
There are people that exist called "Feral Children", which simply means they were separated from human beings during the years of life one usually learns languages and how to behave civilly. There are very dark cases of feral children being kept in a room or a basement for most of their lives by abusive caretakers, but in other cases, feral children (sometimes nicknamed wild children or "Wild child") grow up in the wilderness with no human contact. I think Enya is talking more about the wild child that grows up in the wilderness, free as a bird and not caught up in the trivial things that us "civilized" humans worry about and trifle with. The child is just living their lives, naturally and happily in nature. "You don't need a reason let the rain go on and on." Everyone desperately looks for a reason to be living, while they don't realize, they should just be living. The wild child doesn't care about tomorrow or next week, or next year. She/he just lives, and let's life happen to him/her instead of snooping around for meaningless things that shouldn't even play a part in anyone's life. |
Enya – Storms In Africa Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Gotta agree with you there. Pretty open and shut, the meaning of this song. I think you worded quite nicely. |
Erasure – Always Lyrics | 13 years ago |
LMAO... proof that, if a song is simple enough, it can be interpreted as anything the listener likes. :) LOL |
Infadels – Free things for poor people Lyrics | 13 years ago |
It might be about sex. A few lines in particular give me this hunch. "Free things for poor people..." Even poor people can have sex. It's one of the many natural things in this world that don't involve money (unless you're a hooker or something.) "She knocks me out... My river runs through her now..." Sounds like the guy is talking about his orgasm and... emissions during sex. "Reflecting all the fireworks in my head..." Thoughts of excitement, intensity... therefore, fireworks in my head. It's what it made me think of. *shrug* If it is about sex, that's a lovely way of putting it. It takes out the kinky, immature idiocy surrounding the idea of sex and highlights the beauty and excitement of making love to someone. |
Imogen Heap – Hide and Seek Lyrics | 13 years ago |
"Where are we? What the hell is going on? The dust has only just begun to fall Crop circles in the carpet Sinking feeling" This is just my interpretation, but I think the song could be about a disaster or national/worldy upset (like 9/11 or the beginning of war). This is the reaction of the people immediately after it happens and the sinking feeling of impending strife. "Spin me around again and rub my eyes This can't be happening When busy streets a mess with people Would stop to hold their heads heavy" It talks about specific people having their eyes opened, as they realize the weight of the situation, unlike most people. It talks about the world being mutually downhearted and everyone in the streets hang their heads in misery or even respect for the dead. "Hide and seek Trains and sewing machines All those years They were here first" Disasters come and go. They hide for a bit, and no one actively thinks about them throughout their daily lives, but when they seek to destroy once more, everyone becomes aware. Trains and sewing machines, all those years, they were here first... Even though there are disasters, there are small things that last forever. Even if millions of people are wiped out, some things were here before, and they'll be here after many more disasters. "Oily marks appear on walls Where pleasure moments hung before The takeover, the sweeping insensitivity Of this still life" Talks about the infection of pleasure and happy lives with stains of horror and death. Some people don't even care, because their lives aren't affected... their lives remain still and they are insensitive to the victims. Hide and seek Trains and sewing machines Blood and tears They were here first "Mm what'cha say? Mm, that you only meant well Well of course you did Mm what'cha say? Mm that it's all for the best Of course it is Mm what'cha say? Mm that it's just what we need You decided this? Mm what'cha say? Mm what did you say?" Insensitive people making excuses, downplaying disasters, basically saying "no big deal" or even insinuating that we deserved it. "Ransom notes keep falling out your mouth Mid-sweet-talk newspaper word cutouts (paper word cutouts) Speak no feeling; no, I don't believe you You don't care a bit You don't care a bit" People don't speak with their own words and they use the outlines of cliche lines to pacify people. Leaders who get up in front of crowds to say "everything is under control" and "we're here to help" speak with no empathy (feeling). The people who really care don't buy it. They know that these people don't care a bit. That's just my own interpretation... I don't think it's about lovers or scandal or breakups. There are more meaningful things in life. |
Aqua – Butterfly Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Smile.DK sings this, NOT aqua. |
Vienna Teng – Soon Love Soon Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I find this song to be VERY hippie-esque, but when I went to one of her live shows... it was such a small warm, intimate room full of people with Vienna leading the song in front. Everyone swaying and singing together. It was a powerful thing. I believe it's about world peace. It's about the day that humans realize that we are all one people. All humans. The day we join hands and forget our differences. Whether that will ever happen is unlikely, but it's lifts a person up hearing the possibility. |
Vienna Teng – Shine Lyrics | 13 years ago |
It's surprising no one has commented yet! Well, I'll give it a go. I think I read somewhere that Teng said she wrote this after a surge of writer's block. I don't think there's much of an underlying meaning here. It's meant to be an uplifting song, and it's good to listen to when you're feeling hopeless or depressed. It's basically saying, we have to make the best out what we have (a broken (flawed) world, and this includes it's people) and live our lives laughing, learning, and loving, shining as brightly as we can and spreading joy among each other, lifting one another up, and making a difference instead of treating life like it means nothing, even though humankind has had a lot of hardship. It's a song of encouragement, reminding us not to lose hope, even though sometimes it seems the world is getting worse everyday. We've come a long way, but we still have such a long way to go. We need to take the rest of the time we have on Earth by storm. |
Vienna Teng – 1BR/1BA Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This was definitely a song made for humor and light contemplation. It's one of her simpler, less melancholy songs. I really love it. :) Especially when she preforms it live... just, wow... |
Vienna Teng – Kansas Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Heh. I always think about Vienna Teng and Alex Wong together when I listen to this. They work together alot, so obviously they travel together alot. I can't help but make a mental picture of Alex and Vienna driving through the flat, peaceful state of Kansas. I also can't help but think of Vienna and Alex as a couple. They're just so perfect together, in my opinion. |
Vienna Teng – Love Turns 40 Lyrics | 13 years ago |
I don't think that the "love turns 40" means she's forty, I'm pretty sure it's referring to how long her and her husband have been married. Then again, that WOULD indicate that she's well over 40 wouldn't it. :) lol |
