Bob Dylan – Lay Lady Lay Lyrics

there are two things i love most about this song (besides how soft and smoothing it is). his use of alliteration (lay lady lay, big brass bed) and rhetoric. how inspiring is it when he says 'why wait any longer for the one you love, when he's standing in front of you' |

i really like what this song sends, as a kid you want nothing more than to spend time with your loved ones, and in the end when the father is grown up realizes that after everything else, after all the things like work and material things which lose importance in old age all you need is your loved ones. Somewhere in between these important things get lost, which is what this song perfectly encompasses. |

also i think the last stanza might reference hamlet, in terms of everybody being equal (symbolized by everybody turning into dust/being created from it).
Even if it wasn't inspired by hamlet I think the point still stands. |

Bob Dylan – Mr. Tambourine Man Lyrics

two things.. 1) the use of harder drugs (ie lsd which dylan was experimenting around this time) are not widely accepted, in fact lsd is considered almost as bad as heroine for some reason.
2) surrealism is not necessarily escapism, as in the case of this song. |

The Doors – The End Lyrics

i always used to disregard the first part of the song (the 'breakup' part) but now i realize that it is very true. This is the end, beautiful friend. that is how most relationships are, just good friends that are beautiful, the perfect combination for love, or atleast how most people view it. Then, when that is over you truly could be limitless and free but instead you long for a stangers hand, you need to fill that void that is gone because of insecurity or whatever other reason.
yeah... great song |

Bob Dylan – Visions of Johanna Lyrics

in my opinion louise is 'real' and johanna is that perfect girl he can't stop 'seeing' (ie aiming towards). I think it's a little further than that though, as louise respresents the finite or very human, one with flaws and such while johanna represents the infinite or pure, so flawless. Meanwhile throughout all his encounters with louise (finite) he always has his mind on johanna (the infinite), and in the last stanza it seems to me he rules out the finite, but yet the infinite is still but a vision. |

Bob Dylan – It Ain't Me Babe Lyrics

I don't really think he was intending on people drawing those statue of liberty conclusions, the lines that have been interpreted that way don't fit together in the overall structure of the song, they are just random one liners.
I like the progression in this song, at first he makes it sound like he really isn't good enough for her because he doesn't do the small things (like opening doors and backing her up in conflicts) but then slowly says he doesn't do more unreasonable things like devoting his entire life to be only a part of hers, which makes it seem that he isn't the only one that is unsuitable for her but nobody else either. At the end you can see isn't happy being her love slave.
And, you could also directly apply that to how he felt about his fans, who wanted him to devote his life to fulfilling whatever needs they had. |

Deep Purple – April Lyrics

I am pretty sure there is a connection... ts eliot's line: "April is the cruellest month" is fairly well known so I don't think it would be a stretch to say so |
