Cage the Elephant – Shake Me Down Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Overall, this song is most certainly about his drug addiction and/or the struggles that happened going into it and going out of it. For someone who was so far along within drugs... it's so amazing to see how he has recovered. He hardly even drinks alcohol anymore. (Contrary to popular belief!) He refuses drug offers from fans without hesitation, no matter what drug, but is polite enough to still thank them for the offer. He also doesn't hesitate to tell them why he refuses, either -- "I used to have a really bad drug problem, so I stay away from that stuff now. Thank you, though." It's for this reason that this song is truly, honestly, and perhaps even heartbreakingly beautiful. When you really take it in, consider what it takes for any person to get into this mindset after their troubles, you begin to realize that this song is hope and positive energy in its purest form. He has witnessed what it is and how it feels to crumble at the seams. He has seen it in others and himself. He knows how unfulfilling and temporary the lifestyle is. So for him to triumphantly be able to declare to all those who will be listening, "I keep my eyes fixed on the sun" is a powerful and inspiring thing... and it should not go unnoticed or unappreciated. |
Train – Drops of Jupiter Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This song isn't my type of song by any means... I prefer folk-y/indie music. But I go back to this song again and again. It was a really important song of my adolescence before I understood its true meaning. Now that I do, I appreciate it that much more. I want it played at my funeral, whenever that comes. It's just made that much of an impact. |

So perfectly Cage the Elephant. This new album is everything new, but everything we know from them. I cannot praise it enough. |
Sufjan Stevens – Enchanting Ghost Lyrics | 13 years ago |
This entire EP just rattles my bones to my core. (As Sufjan tends to do, always.) This song -- along with The Owl & The Tanager -- speak to me in multitudes. I feel they were written to live in both my heart and my soul. His melancholy themes, honest lyrics, and soft vocal tones with a haunting falsetto have always appealed to me greatly. This is the kind of music I would make if I could make it. (I am instead left to admire music from both afar and down to the tiny details; I'm a music journalist.) Instead, I will just sing with this EP and continue to love every second of it. While I love this entire song, from every word to its acoustic guitar and gentle piano, my favorite lyric is this one: "If it troubles you to breathe, wait a moment; I could change the scenery." |
Sufjan Stevens – All Delighted People (Original Version) Lyrics | 13 years ago |
Such a beautiful, beautiful song. However, these are not the correct lyrics. The correct lyrics are on Sufjan's website, just beneath this track when you listen to it. They are: Tomorrow you’ll see it through The clouded out disguises put you in the room And though I wandered out alone A thousand lights abounded on our home And I remember every sound it made The clouded out disguises and the grave So yeah I know I’m still afraid Of letting go of choices I have made All delighted people raise their hands And I took you by the sleeve No other reason than to be leading your leading man And you woke up with a fright Our lives depended on the visions through the night All we had always, all we had always wanted to before The hurricane inclined us, grappling on the floor All delighted people raise their hands Still the force of nature spurned Ideas of strength and style abated by the burning basement All delight people raise their hands I’m not easily confused The trouble with the storm inside us grew But I had so much to give In spite of all the terror and abuse And the people bowed and prayed And what difference does it make for you and me? All delighted people raise their hands And the people bowed and prayed And what difference does it make? It doesn’t matter anyway The world surrounds us with its hate Hello darkness my old friend it breaks my heart I’ve come to strangle you in spite of what you’d like And don’t be a rascal, don’t be a laughing dog in spite of odds All I’m deciphering from the spirits in the light within All delighted people raise their hands In restless dreams I walked alone I walked alive The clouded out disguises left me in a dream of lightness All delighted people raise their hands And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made And what difference does it make? I love you so much anyway And on your breast I gently laid Your arms surround me in the lake I am joined with you forever And the people bowed and prayed And what difference does it make for you and me? All delighted people raise their hands I’m not easily confused I feel alive I feel it glowing in the room All delighted people raise their hands…. And the people bowed and prayed Oh I love you a lot; Oh! I love you from the top of my heart And what difference does it make? I still love you a lot; Oh! I love you from the top of my heart And on your breast I gently laid all my head in your arms Do you love me from the top of your heart? I tried my best I tried in vain. Do you love me a lot? Do you love me from the top of your heart? And the people bowed and prayed Oh! I love you a lot; Oh! I love you from the top of my heart And you can see through my mistakes Oh! I’ll tell it to you now; Oh! I’ll tell it from the top of my heart And what difference does it make If the world is a mess; if the world is a mess? And on your breast I gently laid Oh! I’ll tell it to you now; Oh! I’ll tell it to you now (When the world’s come and gone shall we follow our transgressions Or shall we stand strong?) I tried to save the things I made Oh! But the world is a mess, Oh! But the world is a mess And what difference does it make if the world is a mess? If the world is a mess! I tried my best I tried in vain Oh! But the world is a mess! Oh! But the world is a mess! (Suffer not the child among you or shall you die young…) |
Modest Mouse – Blame It on the Tetons Lyrics | 13 years ago |
The Teton's are a mountain range in Wyoming. Grand Teton National Park is where these mountains are. Ansel Adams was famous for photographing this mountain range. This is exactly and only what Isaac is talking about. |
Eisley – Ambulance Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Oh my goodness. I knew instantly it was about her divorce, but the fact that Stacey wrote it makes it that much more special to listen to. |
Cage the Elephant – Back Stabbin' Betty Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Really? This statement surprises me. Matt uses profanity often in his music. (Lotus, In One Ear..) However, I can tell you, he's perfectly acceptable in the midst of an interview and even when socializing. I interviewed him for my blog and he was really sweet. |
Paolo Nutini – Last Request Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song literally takes my breath away. The music video does even more so... I highly recommend everyone watch it. It's such a stunning composition - both the song and the video. He perfectly describes the feelings of wanting to hold things in a relationship together. |
Paolo Nutini – Jenny Don't Be Hasty Lyrics | 14 years ago |
This song is so perfect for my current situation, just reverse the roles. I'm the eighteen year old girl, and he's the 22 year old boy. But other than relating to this song, I find myself singing it often. I've loved it for years... and it never gets old. Paolo is wonderful. :) |
Paolo Nutini – Loving You Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Oh Lord, this song! So sweet and sexy and perfect. I hope my future boyfriend puts this in one night. Hahah. ;) Paolo has it right. |
