Before I read the real reason as to why this song was written, I would have interpreted it as a guy going through divorce, spending his time in a bar while he doesn't have custody of his kid, dealing with the stressful situation of the divorce and such. But after reading the lyrics over a few times the last stanza didn't fit with it.
"Someday we'll be drinking with the seldom seen kid"
Could have meant the "happy life," like they'd be gone soon, as their good times were. However, I know now the real meaning behind it. So to Hell with my thoughts lol.

My English teacher is a HUGE fan of the Beatles. As she informed the class- we had a mini lesson about the Beatles- John's son, when he was about 5 or 6, showed him a picture of a drawing he made of his friend, Lucy, in the sky with diamonds, and that's what the kid told his Dad. In fact, John's son got in contact with her when they were adults, it's also how he learned she developed Lupus.
There's probably a chance that John WAS doing some sort of drug when he wrote the song, but his son's drawing was what inspired the song, not drugs. Go look it up man. |

I had gotten into a big fight with my boyfriend, and as we were trying to work things out, i chose this song at random on a music site and then we began to spill sweet things about each other, said sorry, and said we loved each other immediately after Brandon began singing. I love this song to death, I wouldn't mind making love while hearing this echo throughout a candle-lit room :D |
