Massive Attack – Black Milk Lyrics 6 years ago
It seems like it could be about a miscarriage.

I think it's about an anger with institutionalised racism, eh?

Panda Bear – Benfica Lyrics 9 years ago
@[samucka:2782] I knew of Benfica and I enjoy Panda Bear but I never saw evidence that he actually meant the club until now. Thank you for clearing that up.

Massive Attack – Inertia Creeps Lyrics 9 years ago
Wow, I can completely relate to having a period like that but I've always been conservative when it comes to commenting on the internet.

Massive Attack – Exchange Lyrics 9 years ago
I really think it's meant as an interlude to keep the album from being TOO heavy.

N.E.R.D. – Everyone Nose (All the Girls Standing in the Line for the Bathroom) Lyrics 9 years ago
I think he's saying "the AC's blowing over here." It's right before he talks about cooling down.

Talking Heads – The Great Curve Lyrics 10 years ago
Best explanation I've seen.

Talking Heads – Crosseyed and Painless Lyrics 10 years ago
I think that both cami1le and those claiming it's about opiates are correct. I think the drug he's overdosing on are the facts he uses to satisfy his insecurities about the world. Finally he ends up at a place of mistrusting any "facts."

Talking Heads – Don't Worry About The Government Lyrics 10 years ago
It's just a song about a simple guy, with little joys. I always imagine a low-ranking government employee that sees all these people running around him do hectic trying to do their jobs that they're employed to do by the public of which he is a part. I think it's hugely satirical in a manner of saying "look all it takes to please these people." Just a little naivete and a building.

Talking Heads – Found a Job Lyrics 10 years ago
I don't think he necessarily believed those things. I think it was more a comment on America's deepening obsession with productivity and capital. Like "What good is marriage if we're not using it to increase financial yields!"

He sings "if your work isn't what you love," when I think he means "if what you love isn't your work, then something isn't right."

Talking Heads – I Zimbra Lyrics 10 years ago
It's amazing to me how often dadaism is written off as having been from a certain time period.

submissions
Talking Heads – Once In A Lifetime Lyrics 10 years ago
I agree but I think it goes back to the traditional existentialist story of someone losing contact with their own life. But layered with the more modern concerns about consumerism and the constant capitalistic need for everything to be faster and ASAP.

Talking Heads – This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody) Lyrics 10 years ago
It's like he refrained from love songs the whole time just so when he did it would shine so brilliantly.

Talking Heads – The Overload Lyrics 10 years ago
Kinda reminds me of Apocalypse Now.

Talking Heads – Artists Only Lyrics 10 years ago
I absolutely agree. I think even the title reflects the exclusionary, pretentious nature of most of the so-called artists in the world. Not real artists, but the kind that all dress and act similar in an effort to be more "artistic."

Arcade Fire – Here Comes the Night Time II Lyrics 10 years ago
I suspect this song returns to the subject of Reflektor (the song) and is about being alone, on the computer and talking to your 'friends' who you only know online. For me this happens mostly in the deep night (as I type this at 5 AM). I think the hurt would be the distance between the subjects.

Arcade Fire – Flashbulb Eyes Lyrics 10 years ago
I would guess this song is about either paranoia, feeling like everyone is watching and judging you, or simply reconsidering the vanity of the ever-present selfie. It depends on whether you see the theme of the album as personal isolation or the hazards of the modern era.

submissions
Arcade Fire – Here Comes the Night Time Lyrics 10 years ago
I see the whole album themed around personal feelings of isolation. I think this song can be seen as an interpretation of the gulf in classes through the lens of religion, so often historically used as a tool of oppression (I say this because personally I'm a theist). I read it as a poor person understanding that when the wealthier see them, they lock their doors. When they hear them they fasten their gates. The beat in this case would be the rhythm-based music that's often associated with lower classes. The missionaries would be those who espouse the "virtues" of trickle-down economics.

I think the religious reading is to obvious for the typical calibre Arcade Fire deal in. But as you might have noticed, I'm pretty pretentious...

Arcade Fire – Normal Person Lyrics 10 years ago
I thought of the concept of this song when I was 10, so I might be reading too much into this, but I think it's about how if so many people are 'not normal' what makes "normal" the norm? And why do we let people perceived as normal push us, the majority, around?

HAHAHAHA, like Group 4 on Mezzanine it's about a failing corporation! That's so weird, isn't it?

Gorillaz – Empire Ants Lyrics 14 years ago
They've already announced the first three (Stylo, Superfast Jellyfish and Melancholy Hill) but they always like to slow it down on the fourth, like Tomorrow Comes Today or El Manana, so this is a very good possibility. Also, I just noticed that the last two albums' fourth singles both involved tomorrows... weird.

Gorillaz – Superfast Jellyfish Lyrics 14 years ago
A) I think that De La wanted to add a slight subtext about the music industry because what else could a "plastic doughnut" mean? B) LoLz, What Damon indented?

Gorillaz – Superfast Jellyfish Lyrics 14 years ago
Anyone else excited for the fact that Gruff Rhys finally did something with Damon Albarn? I've been waiting years for this, but I was a little disappointed that they didn't both sing... De La Soul also excellent as usual.

Massive Attack – Atlas Air Lyrics 14 years ago
I listened to this whole album a little bit let down, but I couldn't figure out why. Then I heard this song and realized there's hardly any of that signiture whisper-singing. I think that's really what made their other stuff SO dark and claustrophobic.

This is actually about 2 puppies that Gruff Rhys and his girlfriend had at the time... Nice try though ;)

Radiohead – Airbag Lyrics 14 years ago
You could view No Surprises as a suicide attempt, Lucky as entering the afterlife, The Tourist as deciding to turn back from the afterlife (only visiting) and Airbag as stunning rebirth taking nothing for granted. All signs point to this being the logical end though.

Daisy13's dissertation right here. HAHA.

Faithless – Bombs Lyrics 14 years ago
I think the only downside to the beauty and truth of this song is that it's the first on the album and I can't really get into the rest of the album. I just get stuck listening to this over and over again knowing that nothing else could equal this one.

Beastie Boys – Sure Shot Lyrics 14 years ago
I love how they changed there image and still rapped as hard, man. They realized they were role models and bad ones and now they're preaching peace and equality. It's always been there, before it was partying and equality, like everyone under the umbrella of partying. But now they're being responsible, wish more people would fucking man-up and be responsible!

Talking Heads – Who Is It? Lyrics 15 years ago
This was one of my father's favourite love songs of all time for the line "Watch out now baby, because I am in love with you"
