personnally, i agree with tg617... especially about coming to terms with sins and all of the flaws that we, as humans, have. Considering the album is called "The devil and God are raging inside of me" it probably means his mind in in turmoil of making the effort to be what he was raised as(a christian) and what he has become. Atemporal says it perfectly "he's a sinner whose eventually going to drown in the depths of the sea if he continues on his current path". the name of the album says it all. he feels guilty because his conscience is bringing him back to the person he was before he started giving in to his desire. And he is trying to decide if he should just keep doing things that he knows are wrong or if he should try to change.

yeah, Jesse is(was?) a christian i believe.
in pretty much all of the songs he has written there is definate metaphors to the bible and God.

Dr. Dog – The Breeze Lyrics 14 years ago
also, i was thinking about it today,
and i thought that this song might actually also mean:
everyone has problems and everyone goes through feelings through their lives, but in the end we all get the same FATE(name of the album) we all die
maybe the breeze is a metaphor for death?

Dr. Dog – The Breeze Lyrics 15 years ago
i think this song means that people have a hard time finding things that are solid,
"the good times just don't last" like good times last while they are happening, nothing ever stays,
this song kinda reminds me of robert frost's poem nothing gold can stay:
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

this song is essentailly about people who aren't satisfied with the surroundings they are placed in, and the want to find a crutch to take them away and numb them from reality.
("if nothing ever movies put that needle to the groove") ( "make an angel in the snow and freeze")
Is it a dream keeping you awake?
Is it the stillness that makes you shake?
If you need to know for sure
What's on the ocean's floor
You'll sink
people are so anxious about everything, and to figure things out they need to busy (is it the stillness that makes you shake?) and i think the line "if you need to know for sure whats on the ocean floor you'll sink" means they drown in their thoughts basically they think to much that it overcomes them.

Do you get dizzy on the ground?
It must be something going 'round
What blows us here today
It'll blow us all away,
The breeze
Ahh, will blow us all away
The breeze
Ahh, will blow us all away
The breeze

the breeze is just something that takes away all the misfits/bad thoughts/good thoughts.
the breeze is like a cleanser that takes everything away,
idk,
thats just my opinion,
