Wow, I've heard this song soo many times, but never really listened to the lyrics. It's beautiful. I think (pretty much like everyone else) that it's about the songwriter being really optimistic and naive and imaginative. He tries to write a song but gets really carried away by it. Still it was worth it as I turned the pages solemnly, and then With a winning smile, the boy With naivety succeeds At the final moment, I cried I always cry at endings I think the song he's writing absorbs him so much that he gets drawn into his own story. Then he suddenly realises what he's written, hence the: Oh, that wasn't what I meant to say at all From where I'm sitting, rain Washing against the lonely tenement Has set my mind to wander He becomes aware of the naive story he's written, and he's jolted back to reality. I think the "get me away from here I'm dying" is talking about reality/imagination, so it's not a physical escape, just a mental one. Wow.. I really enjoyed reading everyone's interpretations! I would never have got that on my own! Yeah, I feel like the whole album is about achievement and consequences of actions kind of thing. Who are we, what are we doing here and are we getting the most out of it..? And I suppose that ties in with the drug theme in You Haven't Told Me Anything (if that's true). It's basically about being the best you can be and not hiding behind religion/drugs etc. I shake through the wreckage for signs of life, Scrolling through the paragraphs Clicking through the photographs That sounds to me like looking at the news online? After 9/11 or whatever, and everyone is just online, seeing it all but somehow removed from it? I definitely think it's about religion, I feel like there's some kind of theme like we've replaced religion with the internet maybe? Really good song anyway! The whole album is so motivational :D |
