U2 – Winter Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Incredible song, shame they dropped it from No Line, but I look forward to seeing it on Songs of Ascent. I don't really know what it might mean, but according to @U2 (http://www.atu2.com/lyrics/songinfo.src?SID=878 ) these are the full lyrics: The yellow sun Well, it took the hand Of a country boy To a city in a far-off land We made no mark No shadow at all On the ancient, holy streets Where I learned to crawl The broken and the bruised The young and the used The sure and confused All here Words will then land on me Then abandon me Mangle, untangle me Leave me on the floor Rhymes, they sprang in me Summer sang in me But summer sings in me no more Now I'm twenty-five And trying to stay alive In a corner of the world With no clear enemies to fight It's hot as hell We're like butter on toast But there's no army in this world That can fight a ghost The broken and the bruised The young and the used The sure and confused All here Words will then land on me Then abandon me Leave me stranded In guard of the door Rhymes began in me Summer sang in me But summer sings in me no more Listening to the cries The strangers The silence of the foreign grave Listening to the thunder The sky is strange Stretched over everyone Listening to the tales The child sings That goes for days and days Listening to the calls Shouts, frustration At twenty-one I was born a son And on that day I knew I could kill To protect the ones We put bullets in guns Or anything it takes To take a life until it's still |
Talking Heads – Psycho Killer Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The Talking Heads are considered punk because they were one of the big performers at CBGB's in the 70's and opened for The Ramones on their first show, and they had a very different sound. Their punk style isn't as openly rebellious or profane as, say, The Sex Pistols, but their style is different. And depending on the song you listen to, you can hear the sounds of other early punk bands including The Clash. The Talking Heads are indeed a punk band and were part of the original (the only real) punk movement before branching out later in their career. |
Dire Straits – Tunnel Of Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Incredible song. Supposedly this is the song referenced by Douglas Adams in So Long, and Thanks For Al the Fish. The narrator of the novel narrates "Mark Knopfler has an extraordinary ability to make a Schecter Custom Stratocaster hoot and sing like angels on a Saturday night, exhausted from being good all week and needing a stiff beer [...]". That is supposedly referencing this song, or so I have heard. I love the song, I only listened to it the other day, after discovering that Douglas Adams made reference to it. |
Green Day – Know Your Enemy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Just to add to my comment: The American Idiot sound is there in the fact that it sounds like a song to do with Iraq. But Billie Joe Armstrong told Q: "It’s a rallying song. It’s about liberating yourself from a lot of bullshit that you see on TV.” So I guess it's up for interpretation when it comes to the specifics of the "bullshit". |
Green Day – Know Your Enemy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song is awesome. A little bit too American Idiot, but, still very good, good reminiscent punk sound, simple, catchy, excellent. |
U2 – Unknown Caller Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Unforgettable Fire maybe, but War was still rather raw sounding compared to this. The fact that Eno/Lanois produced both Unforgettable Fire and this album would help explain. |
U2 – I'll Go Crazy If I Don't Go Crazy Tonight Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Beautiful lyrics, lovely song. I don't know what it means, but it's a great song. |
Franz Ferdinand – Walk Away Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Actually Franz Ferdinand is Scottish. And no, It's not about 9/11. If you listen to the themes of other Franz Ferdinand songs, you hear a recurring style and theme. Relationships, love, etc. Not to insult Franz Ferdinand, I love their music, but I doubt they would write such a well masked political song. They may be named after the guy who caused WWI, but I doubt they would write something about 9/11. Franz Ferdinand is brilliant. |
U2 – Get On Your Boots Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Awesome new song, it took me 1 listen for it to register with me, and one more to love it. It's going to be an awesome new album. Great first single! I really don't know the meaning, I'll have to listen a few more times before I get a feel for it. |
The Trews – Man of Two Minds Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Yeah, this is a very good song, somewhat simple, but that makes it great. |
Rush – Tom Sawyer Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love the fact that this song and Rush are referenced in Chuck as The music of the universe, and this song having the algorithm that lets you beat Missle Command. Personally that is one of my favourite TV moments, along with Futurama's reference to Fry's all Rush mix tape for playing videogames. |

Huey Lewis and the News – Hip To Be Square Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Just recently, on the second series of chuck, in every episode so far, they have used at least one huey lewis and the news song. This week's was "Do you Believe in Love" and the week before was this song and "The Power of Love". I think it's interesting that some people find Huey Lewis and the News culturally relevant still. |
Counting Crows – Cowboys Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I take it as a song about relationships. He wanted to change, wanted to be different, in doing so he lost her, his dreams and his everything, she refuses to look at him. She found someone new, he wants her back, can't stand to see her with the other, and shes lieing about her loving him ('Cause, Mr. Lincoln's head is bleeding, On the front row while she's speaking). And he will do anything to get her back. |
Lou Reed – Dirty Blvd. Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think that it is describing the life of someone living in the slums, in the lowest of the low places, and in the end he talks about flying away, leaving forever. Getting out of there. |
Soulja Boy – Crank That (Soulja Boy) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is so terrible, the song has no substance and the dance is stupid. But everyone likes it and listens to it a sings along. I really dislike this song, some hip-hop I can stand, but this makes me want to kill someone. It's so bad. And there are young kids, like 7 and 8 year olds who know it word for word and can perform the dance. It disgusts me. |
Rush – Time Stand Still Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I accidentally discovered this song last year, and I am sooo glad I did. It is a beautiful song, Definitely about having life rush by you and wanting to slow it down, to enjoy it more fully. Love it so much! |
Coldplay – Life in Technicolor Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is so beautiful, it makes me feel so happy, and it makes me think about my life and all the good times I've had. My only problem with it is that it could be longer. |
Coldplay – 42 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Edit: The style sounds like a few of the beatle songs. |
Coldplay – 42 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
The first part of this song sounds really Pink Floyd-Esque and it is really interesting, the style of the song, it is really different. The first thing I thought of when I heard the song was that this sounds like the beatles. |
The Tragically Hip – Luv (Sic) Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song is a great song that I think is about falling in love with someone, and becoming lovesick, feeling as if "Love's the only virtue there is" and then falling apart while still in love with the person, hoping that "love's not the only virtue there is", eventually thinking that "Maybe love is the only virtue there is" without any escape, and it doesn't matter what the relationship is like, once you're caught in its trap, you're stuck. Very good song. |
Great Big Sea – Sea Of No Cares Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's a lovely song about falling in love, and how great it feels to be carefree. Yet it only captures that side of love. |
U2 – October Lyrics | 16 years ago |
its a really simple, bautiful song, definitely about death and moving on after a death, it's amazing how beautiful such a simple song can be. One of my favourite U2 songs. |
The Rolling Stones – Out Of Tears Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This has to be my favourite Rolling Stones song, it's so beautiful. It's so melodic, really the meaning is completely straightforward, but still, such a beautiful and sad song. |
