Bette Midler – Oh Industry Lyrics 9 years ago
I always thought she was singing about the entertainment industry. How someone who's reigned supreme over Hollywood for so long is now having their downfall, whether it be because of age or illness, maybe death. I always felt like it was about the legacy they left behind and wondering if it was really worth anything in the end.

Lana Del Rey – Diet Mountain Dew Lyrics 11 years ago
There's so many things this song could mean. It could literally be about Lana riding around with a guy in New York city, wearing heart-shaped sunglasses and drinking Diet Mountain Dew. I serverly doubt it's that literal though.

Let's break it down:

"You're no good for me
Baby you're no good for me
You're no good for me
But baby I want you, I want you"

-Obviously this guy is no good for her, but she wants him.

"Diet Mountain Dew, baby, New York City
Never was there ever a girl so pretty
Do you think we'll be in love forever?
Do you think we'll be in love"

-She compares this guy to Diet Mountain Dew, because on the surface he looks good for her, but in reality, he's actually terrible for her just like the beverage itself.
-She also says "Never was there ever a girl so pretty" She could be talking about New York itself or the Statue of Liberty or it could be talking about herself.
-She also questions their love for one another, doubting it.

"Baby put on heart shaped sunglasses
'Cause we gonna take a ride
I'm not gonna listen to what the past says
I've been waiting up all night"

-By telling him to put on "heart-shaped sunglasses" I think she's asking him to at least pretend to be in-love with her, even though they're not.
-She's not going to "listen to what the past says" perhaps because he's treated her poorly or he has a bad boy reputation.

"Take another drag turn me to ashes
Ready for another lie?
Says he's gonna teach me just what fast is
Say it's gonna be all right"

-She's comparing herself to a cigarette. By turing her to ashes, he's using her and he's lying to her to get what he wants, perhaps, or vice-versa. Either way, she doesn't care.
-The second part might be talking about how she's not that experienced, whether it be sex or something else. Whatever it is, he's going to teach her.

"Let's take Jesus off the dashboard
Got enough on his mind
We both know just what we're here for
Saved too many times

-She's talking about throwing her morals out the window and not caring about what other people think.
-She knows what they're there for, which most likely is sex.

"Maybe I like this rollercoaster
Maybe it keeps me high
Maybe this weed it brings me closer
I could sparkle up your eye"

-She's talking about how this is an unhealthy realtionship, but she likes it.

Overall, I think the song is about a sexual realationship thats clearly unhealthy for her because she knows this is going no where, but she doesn't care. It looks good, even though it's terrible for her, just like Diet Mountain Dew.

Lana Del Rey – Cola (Pussy) Lyrics 11 years ago
I'm so glad I came here and read all the comments! I honestly thought I was the only person who thought this song was about drug addiction. I don't believe this song is about Lana having an affair with a married man, Lana is never that literal. And she doesn't put emphasis on the "pussy" part, she mainly talks about making it out to the other side. I think it's about her boyfriend getting over his addictions and her feeling like she plays second fiddle to his addiction, almost like a mistress and drugs are his wife. She also talks about how she knows his wife which possibly means she struggled or still struggles with the same habbits. I'm so glad other people think this too!

Lana Del Rey – Cola (Pussy) Lyrics 11 years ago
It's a little far fetched, but hey, that's why artists write songs, to make people think. I think the song might be about a relationship centered around drugs.

"Come on baby, let's ride
We can escape to the great sunshine
I know your wife and she wouldn't mind"

Perhaps he's doing drugs and she wants him to stop. Comparing his drug addiction to a wife. Or maybe he's going overboard with drugs and she just wants him to slow down.

"We made it out to the other side
We made it out to the other side
We made it out to the other side"

She reiterates this constantly, perhaps she's saying that they made it through all the terrible addictions and their relationship survived. Either way, I think this might be the most important part of the song.

A Kiss Could Be Deadly – the book, not the feeling Lyrics 14 years ago
I think it's about the singer's affair with a person.

"Stop acting like everything's fine
We're in for some trouble now
Just re-plan it
Don't panic yet
Listen for footsteps in the hall
She's so unpredictable
Stop blushing
It's nothing new
And I'm through with it"

She's telling him to stop acting like what they're doing is fine when it's not, because maybe the singer is friends with the guy's wife. His wife, girlfriend or whatever is "so unpredictable" and could walk in on them any minute. She tells him how she feels about him, but he doesn't want to leave his wife "Stop blushing, It's nothing new," and now shes "through with it" meaning she wants the truth to come out and for him to leave his wife for her.

"Is it over yet
A single cigarette
Desperately unaware
An unseen love affair
So cut me down again
We'll call it perfect then
And you might know how it begins
But you'll never guess just how this one ends"

Maybe she's saying that their affair is like a cigarette, and she's addicted to him, and every time they meet it's just like smoking a single one, when she wants to chain smoke. She wants all of him. She's carrying on "An unseen love affair" and every time they meet it's almost like a high for her, but then he leaves and "cuts" her down and they'll "call it perfect" because the wife never finds out. She goes on saying, you know how this affair begins, but you'll never guess how it will end, which might imply a lot of things, whether the wife will stay with him when the truth comes out or if he'll leave both of them or stay with the singer. None of them know how it will end, but they know it's coming.

"I'm not the one that set you off
Slow down a little bit
Just forget it
You'll regret it soon
There's only one way out of here
And I don't think you'll like it much
Stop Guessing
We're regressing back
And I'm through with it"

Now she's saying that she's not the one who started the affair, and he wants to quit it, but she might be threatening him; "Just forget it, you'll regret it soon" might mean that he needs to keep the affair going or she'll tell his wife and he'll regret it, or maybe it's something a little more sinester. She then says "There's only one way out of here, and I don't think you'll like it much," which could mean if she can't have him no one will which might imply her murdering him, but then again, the one way out could also mean that she'll reveal everything.

She ends the song with:
"Is this what you wanted
Well this is what you get."

Which I think could mean, whether you wanted it or not you're going to get it because she's calling the shots now.

A really great song, I might be reading way too much into it, like I do everything else! LOL!

Lady GaGa – I Like It Rough Lyrics 14 years ago
All of you have great interpretations of this song, I think GaGa is an amazing song writer. To me this song is about her in a relationship with a guy who wants more than casual sex.

"I'm in the bedroom (bedroom) with tissues and when
I know you're outside banging
Then I won't let you in"

I think she's saying that this guy wants more from their relationship than she does. He's trying to get into her thoughts and how she's feeling but she just wants something physical so she 'won't let him in'.

"Cause it's a hard life (hard life)
With love in the world
And I'm a hard girl
Loving me's like chewing on pearls (chewing on pearls)"

She's saying that loving her is hard because she doesn't want anything serious.

"I'm shiney and I know it
Don't know why you wanna blow it
Need a man who likes it rough, likes it rough, likes it rough
Is it 'cause you don't mean it
Or because I don't feel it
Unless it's rough?"

She's saying that this guy has it made with her, she doesn't want anything serious she just wants the physical stuff, but he wants to blow it by trying to make it a serious relationship. She needs a man who just wants sex and nothing else.

So I don't think the song is about her liking rough sex, I think it's a little deeper than that. That's just what I think.

Eve – Let Me Blow Ya Mind Lyrics 15 years ago
This was Gwen's big "comeback" after the low sales of no Doubt's 'Return to Saturn' I personally loved that record, but people see it as a failure due to the fact that it didn't sell as much as the previous. I think the part Gwen sings is about her not caring what the haters say and doing what she wants. When she says "Now I got my foot through the door and I ain't going no where." She's saying that even though her record with No Doubt might have not done as well, she's not going anywhere. So for all the haters of Gwen out there, let me just say, no matter what you say you won't bring her down. She's been in music since her teens and she's staying in music! Suck on that!

No Doubt – It's My Life (Talk Talk cover) Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is about this person in a relationship with someone who's treating her badly.

"It's funny how I found myself in love with you"
(He's doing all this stuff to her, yet she still loves him)

"If I could buy my reasoning I'd pay to lose"
(Even if she could reason with herself and walk away she wouldn't)

"One half won't do"
(She wants this person to commit fully to her, she doesn't want just half)

"I've asked myself
How much do you
Commit yourself?"
(She wonders how much he really commits himself to her and their relationship)

"Funny how I blind myself
I never knew"
(She refuses to see the flaws in the relationship or in her partner)

"If I was sometimes played upon
Afraid to lose"
(He's probably lied to her a thousand times, but she refuses to call him on it because she's afraid to lose him.)

"I'd tell myself what good do you do?
Convince myself"
(She wonders what good he really does her)

"It's my life
Don't you forget
It's my life
It never ends"
(In the chores I think she's saying that it's her life je shouldn't forget that she can end this relationship anytime, but she doesn't want to.)

That's what I think it means, I don't understand what people are saying when they say this song is about animals. There were animals in the original video video with Talk Talk, but I'm not sure if the song has anything to do with animals. I think they were just showing life in all it's forms when they showed them in the video.

Akira Yamaoka – You're Not Here Lyrics 15 years ago
To me this song is about a loved one, whether it be family or a lover. When she says:

"Blue sky to forever
The green grass blows in the wind, dancing
It would be a much better sight with you, with me"

To me blue skies and the grass is a state of mind, maybe contentment or happiness, but sometimes this person isn't there with her emotionally. Maybe this person doesn't see the bright side of things with her.

"If you hadn't met me, I'd be fine on my own, baby
Never felt so lonely, then you came along"

This line is bitter sweet, mainly because she was lonely, but she never realized it until this person came along and showed her what being with someone was about. The rest of the song is pretty self explanatory. This is like my new favorite song! I'm obsessed with it right now! LOL! Love it!

Just to fill you in on a little tid bit, Chris Brown confessed to what he did to Rhianna. He already had lawyers and he's agents in on this within hours after the incident to make himself come out smelling like a rose! No matter what Rhianna said, Brown had no right to hit her! No man has any right to hit a woman! And for you to defend him by saying something like 'Team Chris' makes you sound so immature. I just don't understand why people defend Chris Brown! He's obviously no real man for beating up on a woman. Oh and FYI, Rhianna does not write her own lyrics. If they make you mad, you should blame the songwriter, in this case, Justin Timberlake, or just don't listen to her at all.

A beautiful song comparing love to roses. Roses, like love, are one of the most beautiful things in the world, but both can harm you. In this case shes saying that the rose, like love, can only last so long before the petals fall off and your left with nothing but the painful thorns. The song is full of lovely comparisons.

Rihanna – Rehab Lyrics 15 years ago
An addiction is considered a disease. Have you never heard that before? Just because its, what you call, 'mainstream music' doesn't automatically make it a horrible or dumb song. The song actually has a lot of meaning to it. And I agree, she doesn't have the best singing voice in the biz, but that doesn't mean you have to hate on the song for being what you call 'mainstream' whatever that is.

Rihanna – Rehab Lyrics 15 years ago
To me this song is talking about a love gone sour. Notice she says "Next time you wanna go on and leave
I should just let you go on and do it" Shes not making him, or wanting him to leave. In a way shes addicted to him like a drug. And hes slowly dragging her down a path she doesn't want to go down, but she can't say no. The song is really like a dirge to the death of what they once had. The ending of the song isn't too hopeful for her. She seems to realize how bad he is for her but she won't leave him, shes waiting on him to leave her.

Katy Rose – Overdrive Lyrics 15 years ago
Out of bed at the crack of noon
Blare the music and have a swoon
I can’t stop thinking of your face
La la lee la lee loo lace
I’m six feet under the Bhodi tree
With my crap new-age philosophy

Here I think shes saying she lives a life of non-exsistance. Her whole life is about whatever shes obsessed with. She makes the rules as she goes and she doesn't care

I’m sitting in Jayne Mansfield’s car

I think she's saying she's in a destructive relationship with either drugs, money, fame or a person

Diamonds where there once were stars

Her relationship with this person or object is totally superficial.

My minds all screwed and upside down But my hearts on overdrive

Her morals and sanity or completely deteriorating, but she doesn't care because it makes her feel so good.

Yeah yeah I’m cherry cola
Yeah yeah I’m Candy-eyed
Yeah yeah I’m California

All these things represent something.

Cherry Cola- She's flavorful, fun, vivacious.
Candy-eyes- She possesses a child like attitude or shes looking for something irrational.
California- Shes cutting edge, over the top, insane, fake, sexy... California could mean a number of things.

I need to take a shower when I look at you
You sting and hurt like a bad tattoo
I wish you’d change my point of view

I think shes talking about herself, her addiction or a lover. She wants to change whatever she sees but she can't. Shes depending on the other person or object to change for her so she doesn't have to deal with it.

I cruise the canyon to get some breeze
With hidden treasures up my sleeve

This is a drug reference to me. "Breeze" is drugs "Hidden Treasures" are money

I like the light and hate the heat
But I’ll lick the blood right off your street

Shes seems to be saying, she likes the way whatever this is makes her feel but she hates the consequences of it. This doesn't seem to bother her too much though because she goes on to say she'll do anything for this person or whatever (I'll lick the blood right off your street) In other words shes obsessed with whatever or whoever this is.

They all come here to find a scene
But end up girls on Methedrine
Naked on a TV screen
The dreams that fall beneath my feet
Make my footsteps feel so sweet

Probably talking about Hollywood or addiction. She watches other people go through whatever she's going through and it somehow makes her feel good.

But your kisses are my fait accompli

Here I think shes saying the pleasantry is over. Her happiness with whatever she has is over and she might want to get out of it but can't.

I think she's trying to say that this guy *cough* Lance *cough* promised her the world but when push came to shove, he was just full of it and didn't stand by her like he promised. the line,

"Butterflies are free to fly, and so they fly away And I'm left to carry on and wonder why"

Makes me think that he left her for another woman, or just left her. As the song goes on she also begins to doubt herself. In the first verse she says:

"This isn't how it's really meant to be
No it isn't how it's really meant to be"

It's almost like she's trying to convince herself. Then she says:

"But is this how it's really meant to be
No is it how it's really meant to be"

Now it's like she's questioning it and wondering if she'll ever find love again. It's a touching song and I love it.

Barbra Streisand – I Stayed Too Long at the Fair Lyrics 15 years ago
I love this song! I don't think it's talking about an actual fair though. I think it's talking about a woman who has gone through life, maybe in denial that the man she loved did not feel the same about her,and is just now waking up, realizing life has passed her by and she's waisted her time on a man who doesn't love her. She can no longer live in denial and there's nothing she can do to save the situation, too much time has passed and now she's just realizing she's alone and has no one:
I found my blue ribbons all shiny and new
But now I discover them no longer blue...
The merry-go-round is beginning to taunt me,
Have I stayed too long at the fair?
There's nothing to win
And there's no one to want me
Have I stayed too long at the fair?

Thats what I think it means. It's very haunting and sad. but it makes you wonder if you're staying too long at the fair and if it's time to move on.

I think it's about two people in relationships who do not love the people they are in the relationship with. So they meet secretly to have an affair.

It also could mean a couple having sex out of wedlock, but I think the adultry thing makes more sense especially when they say:

Barbra: "You battle on with the love you're livin' on
You gotta be mine"

Barry: "You battle on with the love you're buildin' on"

I think they're talking about their other relationships with people they don't love.

Barbra Streisand – Stoney End Lyrics 15 years ago
I think the first part of the song is about her losing faith in something, or maybe rebelling against something she shouldn't had. Either way she learned the hard way that she was wrong she went down "The Stoney End" and even though she did something wrong her mother was there to pick up the pieces and make her ok again.

The second part of the song is about her losing her virginity and falling in love with a man she thought she knew. Then he left her broken and sad, so she went back to her mother and her mother made everythng alright again.

The last verse is a little hrd for me to understand. I think maybe she's talking about her experiences in her life and how she's learned from them and how she's taken the hard way around but her mother was always there for her.

It's a homage to mothers basically! LOL! I love this song and Barbra. I can' believe I'm the first to comment about it. I think everyone can relate to this song, I mean, all of our mothers or mother figures have always saved our butts at some point in our lives! LOL!

I love this song, it's still one of my favorties. I heard one person say how teenagers were ruining this song. I think this song connects with teenagers because it's about backstabbing and rumors, which sooo many teenageres have to deal with these days. – Love Song Lyrics 16 years ago
Again, yes this might be about her telling her record company that she's not writting a love song for them just because they asked for it. It's about her being an artist and not compromising herself by writting a song about something she's not really feeling at that moment. It can also be about a relationship. It could be about a guy who wants her to say "I love you" when she's not ready for it yet. She's basically telling this guy that she's not going to say something she doesn't feel just to keep him around. That could be another meaning to it. Thats what makes this song so great! It can have so many different meanings! My favorite part is the beginning though, "Head under water
And you tell me
To breathe easy for a while"

Basically about a woman who needs her lover to understand that things won't always be perfect in their relationship. She basically tells him that it won't always be happy and sunny between them.
