| I love this song. He truly cares about this person. They both care about eachother but have a relationship that can't go to the next level for some reason not told. Im guessing the girl dates his friend or something along those lines. that explains why they are close enough to have feelings but never crossed the line. This particular night they were out of town together and for the first time they could be together. Both wanted it but knew it was wrong. But they enjoy it while it lasts. There is almost a sense of remorse that it can't work | |

| I haven't read a post yet that i completely agree with. I have felt this way about this since i heard it. I am looking at the lyrics now cause im going through exactly what I think they are talking about. first I dont know what the lyrics officially are but I hear the drawer line as Everything I love is lost in drugs. which makes a lot more sense. I think there may be some other lines I hear differently. Anyway, I see this song as the verse contrasting the chorus. The verse is about how everything is falling apart in his life. He has made some serious mistakes. These mistakes may have to do with drugs, relationships, work, the law, whatever it may be but they do not have anything to do with the person from the chorus. The person in the chorus is his savior. As bad as everything in his life is going he just wants to rush home and be with this one person who loves him unconditionally. This makes so much sense I could quote line for line but it makes so much sense. It is a thank you song to this person. "ut a blue ribbon on my brain". just comfort him when he is down because everything else is so wrong. I dont see how you all see this song so differentl. | |

i feel like im in a similiar situation to this song. had an ex relationship and was hurt by it. now he is trying to force new relationships to replace the love lost. he spits out bs like "i love you" and "lets run away" because it gets done, what he wants done.... he wants to go to sleep and for her to stop talking and he wants sex. butttttt he also says it because he wants to believe it and and he wishes he really felt it. but he doesnt feel it and he feels it is his fault that he cant be attatched to anyone anymore because his heart was so damaged in the past. |

I think the song is about global warming/ humans ending the world. im no scholarly poet guy but it makes sense. radiohead is pretty envior friendly. I don't wanna be your friend I just wanna be your lover In a love situation the lovers are usually also friends. even if they are not friends one is usually not apposed to the idea of friendship. with earth we dont want to be friends. it isnt give and take. we "lust" and take whatever we want with no regard. No matter how it ends No matter how it starts we dont truly know how the earth started or how it is going to end. ( the lyrics do suggest that that it will deff end) but we do what we want with the earth. who cares why its here and that its going to die because of what we do. we will keep lusting and taking from the earth. alright sorry but im becoming obsessed with this song. i think ive changed my mind. I think the song is about two people in love. one dies. the one that dies is now looking down on the other person. the dead lover writes this song and is singing it to the live person. I'll be around you were right about the stars each one is a setting sun this is the dead person saying that he is now in the heavens. He is in fact everywhere, which is common for people to claim about spirits. The speaker obviously knew the other person well because he knew the persons view about the stars from before. The dead person is now confirming the belief, also proving that he is in a better place, the heavens. He is among the stars looking down. dont cry you can rely on me is simply stating that the dead one will watch over the live one and protect him. tall buildings shake voices escape singing sad sad songs tuned to chords strung(?) down your cheeks bitter melodies turning your orbit around the tall buildings part confuses me but the rest is all about a song. I am going to say that it is referencing itself. The dead person is singing this song and ind the song is saying, use this song when you are feeling low. let the tears out. cry and sing and eventually your world will turn back around. don't cry you can rely on me honey you can come by anytime you want this is saying, again, that this person is dead but still out there in the universe or in the persons heart. all the live one needs to do is sort of pray and the dead one will be there. our love our love our love is all we have our love our love is all of Gods money everyone is a burning sun obviously speaking of the strength of their love. it is all they have because one person died but there love cannot. everyone is a burning sun relates to the other line about that. you can rely on me...... possibly the dead person has "become one of the stars" i guess sorta to paint the picture that the live person can look up and see his lover above. great song ill prob change my mind on it tomorrow though |

alright i might end up rambling but im gonna give this a shot. i have never responded here but i feel i've got an idea about this song. tweedy is a genious far beyond myself so im probably way off but this is what i get. Firstly I need to say that I wanted this song to be about drugs because the you can combine verse worked so well but the rest doesn't fit and Jeff would have gone much deeper and darker into drugs had this song focused on them. Also there is way too much reoccurence of god, jesus, and the unknown for this song to not be spiritual and religous. Tweedy is such an amazing writer that no words are mistakes or included by chance. anyway rambling again. Mr. Tweedy is writing from the perspective of god. I feel I should add that it is pagan god unkown to humans. God is speaking directly to an individual. The "Jesus, ..." is not an expression of "wtf? seriously man dont crie" Jesus may actually be Jesus Christ, like me saying "Josh, you suck." now this may actually be jesus, another messiah, or some other person who feels the weight of the world on their shoulders, has reached rock bottom for the first time. This person has analyzed the world and god is talking to him for the first time. god is comforting jesus and telling him that he was correct about a lot, "you were right about the stars." in the overrall picture though god is telling jesus, "hey dude, I know the world seems sad. you yourself and billions of others are sad and killing. but I have a larger plan. You need to realize that the things so huge that they are mysteries have things revolving around them. just as you and your peers cry together to form cities and buildings so do these stars. we all interact and its not perfect. You are as huge an impact on some things as the stars are on you.( "everyone is a burning sun" meaning that what you do changes everything or can turn an orbit around) the tears that turn the orbit around come from compassion or "love". god says that love is all we have and it is the only thing that can change the world and the universe's orbit that seems to be going the wrong way. The lines our love our love our love is all we have our love our love is all of Gods money everyone is a burning sun are completely diffe4rent from all the other lines in style because they are so important. especially the money line. Money is how we get things done. Love is the only way god knows how to help the world and he has invested all that he has into each of us. there are some more lines that aren't as huge but I haven't found any that contradict what Im saying. the cigarrette line im thinking is about a temporary fix that god may have given us or maybe god is mad about.the you can combine anything you want confuses me. maybe the jesus he is talking to is actually jesus and believes he is the messiah but is actually just a human and this god, not the jewish god, but this random god is saying, hey jesus its straight your wrong but i accept you. there is no way you could know." ummmm sorry my writing is bad and this is the first poem ive ever analyzed but yeah. tell me what you think. oh and instead of this being about 9-11 coould it be about some other war. twin towers werent the first bulidings to ever go down. |
