Neuroticfish – Need Lyrics | 15 years ago |
There's a quote from Ghost in the Shell in this. I have no idea how it has any significance to the song, they have a lot of random anime quotes. |
Muse – New Born Lyrics | 15 years ago |
The title is from a line in the Ghost in the Shell movie. "Where does the New born go from here? The net is vast and infinite". The song is about pretty much the same themes covered in GiTS too, about approaching technology and how it would make us soulless(of course Ghost in the Shell is literally often about spiritual experience through technology). Matt takes a much less optimistic approach though, as he says in the interview. But I'm pretty sure that line is WHY the song is called New Born, even if he doesn't necessarily agree with he way the GiTS franchise approaches the subject. |
Bauhaus – Double Dare Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Fairly straight forward. Daring fake politicans to actually act like real people instead of the conservative little muppets they can be. |
Bauhaus – Boys Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's not about cross dressing. It's about goff kids. |
Bauhaus – Terror Couple Kill Colonel Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"they wrote this song from a headline in the newspaper that read "terror couple kill colonel", and just expanded on the story" Yes, my thoughts exactly. |
Bauhaus – Kick In The Eye Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This song sounds like most like Bowie. It sounds "Like the 70s and early 80s" in general, I think, the most out of their songs, with elements of Queen and other bands in there. |
Bauhaus – A God in an Alcove Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think it's about Washed up, rejected, Celebrities and Politicians. |
Bauhaus – All We Ever Wanted Was Everything Lyrics | 16 years ago |
It's a song about the mundanity of "Normal" life. |
Bauhaus – The Sanity Assassin Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I think this is a sort of political song. The hypothetical Sanity Assassin is someone who people have closed minded views about, "Keeps your fat paranoia well fed", so he plays off those fears and messes with those who deserve to be. Kind of like a gay guy coming onto a homophobe. I think this is sort of about the post punk/goth culture back in the early 80s, in a sense. Most of these lyrics are exaggerations of how people see those who don't fit in with their world view. Shock those who deserve to be shocked. If I'm right, this song has a real Rock'n'Roll philosophy to it. |
Bauhaus – Spirit Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Though then again, I could be wrong. "I wear a coat of drums" kind of makes sense, in a musical imagery kind of way. The lyrics are pretty brilliant. |
Bauhaus – Spirit Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"i wear a coat of drums and dance upon your eyes" Brilliant. Crazy lyrics. I'm pretty sure this was written in the method they've talked about of stringing random phrases from books together. Can't remember the name of the writer who pioneered this idea. It's just capturing the general craziness of live performance. |

Billy Joel – Angry Young Man Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I dunno, isn't this song celebrating Apathy? "I believe I've passed the age of consciousness and righteous rage I found that just surviving was a noble fight I once believed in causes too I had my pointless point of view And life went on no matter who was wrong or right " Just surviving is a noble fight :/ Get on with my life, don't try to change things, don't have "pointless views". Reinforcing mainstream values, talking about the rebellious in a patronising manner... not very rock'n'roll I must say. |
Bauhaus – Who Killed Mr. Moonlight? Lyrics | 16 years ago |
This can't be about the "death of goth rock", goth rock didn't really "die" until the 90s. The Sisters of Mercy were barely around by the time this was written, and goth rock didn't become a widely used term until later in the 80s(In a recent interview, Peter Murphy thinks it wasn't used until the 90s, presumably used for bands like Switchblade symphony, but he's probably purposely bullshitting). Even the original Post Punk scene that Bauhaus were a part of wasn't dead by then, that didn't fully end until '86 at least. It's possible it's about the band ending, though. Which is a bit premature since they're releasing their "Real" last album next march... |
Bauhaus – The Three Shadows, Pt. 1 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"o gentlemen swallow your prayers because the wind makes a mockery of men" Read my views on Three Shadows Part I/II. They hold pretty much here. It's about the futility of prayer when the gentlemen preaching are anything but saintly. "your soul becomes a fish you swim in idle waters and drink other fishes piss" Referring to to those who become too consumed in Christian values; the symbol of Christianity besides the cross, is a fish. Idle waters refer to the conservative bore that a strict religious existence can end up leading to, and drinking other fishes piss is a purposely vulgar jab at the unpleasantness of this existence; and is referring to the way in which strictly religious people communicate in such an artificially refined manner; but in reality, it's just all piss, yet they drink it up anyway. "your soul feeds on fish on piss, puss and men" Piss, is the empty conservation I mention earlier, Fish refers to the how many religious people are also very business orientated, or just plain corrupt and feed on other religious people's values to get where they are, puss refers to the traditional values I mentioned in the Part I/II article, and "men" refers to people not of that religion, that get used and abused in other ways. "who in turn, become as you have become, a fish no, not even that, but a symbol of a fish" This is what really clued me into this being about christiniaty. If this is what I think it means - it's kind of a beautiful way of putting it. To the fundamental, nothing can be worthwhile "On it's own" - this isn't a cup of coffee, it's GOD's cup of coffee. They aren't even a fish - they're GOD'S fish and God's fish is just a symbol for the religion. "hooked by the baby flesh of maggots" Refering to the "baby" used earlier no doubt; the "Baby Jesus" used to reel people into religion, when in reality the version they're using of Jesus is a skewed, Maggoty version "a ripple of life in tin this tin could become your world too" Like the way sardines are squished up together and sold in a tin. The sheer restriction of trying to push so many people to have the same set of values. "so choose between this and water choose between tin and piss" The false dichotomies often present by the religious "Do this or burn in hell". Though since both the tin and the piss were used as the same thing, I think it's perhaps using that false dichotomy as a kind of metaphor for all the other false dichotomies and general lack of freedom you have when you do "Sign up". I really get the feeling there's something very clever here, and I an't quite put my finger on it. "do you still feel thirsty now are you thirsty now are you thirsty now" Do you still want to suck up all this nonsense even after realising what it really means, etc. "do you still feel thirsty thirsty now" I like how this sounds in the song. It's very cool. Feeds off Three Shadows I/II very well. |
