The Feelies – The Boy With The Perpetual Nervousness Lyrics 7 years ago
In reply to the first comment - he's not *blaming* the boy next door - just the opposite. He is coming to the realization that he *is* that boy. He can pretend that he's above all those petty obligations because he's "into bigger things", but the truth is he's only justifying himself for being lazy and disrespectful. And now that he's recognized it, it's time to change.

The Feelies – Loveless Love Lyrics 7 years ago
A fantastic song that points out the hypocrisy and meaninglessness of the hookup culture. "You don't want to know me" is a huge indictment of that selfish, instant gratification construct peddled by those who manipulate the young. It is indeed a "loveless love", one that disrespects and belittles the other person. The song finishes by reminding the other person that "It's not the way you were raised to behave / Try to understand / That's not the way to be." Kudos to The Feelies for the courage to push back on this destructive meme.

Billy Idol – Dancing With Myself Lyrics 12 years ago
Wow that was a bad reply, Pepe. Billy Idol was IN Gen X, he was a founding member, and he (along with the rest of the band) wrote the song. It dates from 1981, not the 1960s. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dancing_with_Myself

Fastball – The Malcontent (The Modern World) Lyrics 15 years ago
Wonderful commentary on the shallowness and deceitfulness of the world we live in. He sees behind the veil of untruth and is able to reject what MTV and the rest of the world is trying to sell. If only everyone could be this truthful...

Morrissey – Journalists Who Lie Lyrics 16 years ago
Obviously, this song is about the deep-seated love/hate confused emotions Morrissey felt for his gay second cousin on his mother's side...

Nah. It's about journalists who lie to sell papers and boost their own fortunes. :-) Some lyrics are self-explanatory.

Frank Black and the Catholics – Fiddle Riddle Lyrics 17 years ago
From an online chat:

Brannon: Also, while listening to teenager a while back, I thought I might have solved the fiddle riddle...the "face" on which man stands is that of the earth, but he abuses his gift and winds up extinct. But the machines he created live on and live equally futile lives...am I right?

Frank Black: You ah smaht. A sci fi story I read somewhere.
