Heck yeah sobeliz24 - i definitely hear that classic Soundgarden vocals in Chris's voice. It rocks man - most of the songs on King Animal he did a great job on vocally. I'm hoping their next album rocks too i dont wanna jinx it but dont know how much fighting time these guys have left as a band. I hope alot but we shall see. - LoL it's so funny how all of these songs seem to be in reference to a drug w/ the power of Heroine and all.. but uhh.. yeah. If it is about that symbolic town of his growing up. GHOST light.. ghosts are gone.. he wants to drown in the light of that memory .. his tilted shadow.. maybe he feels like now hes just a shadow roamin around without that place. But i mean.. the verses suggest a double meaning like.. he cant put a name on Taree anymore.. cant place his hands there... he can still feel it - IN THE BONES AND THE BLOOD FLOWING.. sure like maybe thru heroine use he can feel it .. needles on the ground, etc. - i see that. in the "ether" he "sails" .. floating on the "fumes" yup... i can see an injection...lol... of double meaning in this song b/w inspirational and vivid imagery and connecting all of that in a powerful way to the place he grew up in. | Because of the way the album that holds this song goes.. I think this song is about his relationship w/ God or the "Creator" so to speak - the one who tries to seek him out IE so i waited in the shadows of my heart - you couldnt risk my fragile frame - saying.. why havnt you sought me out by now ? im fragile and waiting in the shadows.. and now i've just stopped caring and trying to be close.. it's all buried beneath the surface now. That's what i get from this song.. i mean come on.. another song on the album is Far From Heaven.. album photo is a guy wayy up in the clouds unicycling on a straightwire .. i mean if you wanna plug this as just about a personal relationship with another human being thats fine but this album is great and very deep. I think that Petrucci sings the outro to this song so powerfully.. that he like cries out to this higher power than just a past relationship, etc. | |

This song in particular strikes me a bit about a relationship he was in.. empty lies.. laughter dies.. passing the time away... " what COULD have been w/ just 1 kiss goodbye - spread your wings to fly, etc. This song spoke to me more than like this hardcore love ballad tho.. more about how relationships are becoming as a whole. | |

| oh i easily agree with this. melodically and lyrically Scott's a musical genius and all. I think the song has to do with both Love and Death - the seperation of Love through Death - honestly, like with many songs from this genre, and from the astronomical fame/fortune/etc. that musicians like this had , at least for a time, it was no doubt inspired by drug usage i bet.. but yeah. i'd say this song has alot to do with death- although alot of it is physical imagery throughout the verses.. which is very much life.. but the underlying concept, yup | |

| Yeah - i could see how the lyrics could be about Scott's heroine addiction / trips - etc. and how he formulated those into lyrics. Seems plausible. The really cool thing about this song though is i really instantly took it about being in Love - and almost a LITTLE bitterness on the singer's part at the astonishment of his lover and (her) love of nature and the physical beauties - yet Scott feels kinda like, he's just not quite there.. so he'll beg (or is he 'there') for her..and says if she should die before him- plz. have her bring a friend- but he is so deeply commited and in love like line 2 of the chorus stanza.. this is good stuff. i could see him originally writing it about heroine or whatever trips to inspire, but in the long run I think many more people take this song to be deeply romantic- as it prolly should be. | |

fun fact: if you listen very closely to the intro of the song before the guitars come in, you can hear a bubbler/bong and a cough from a guy at the beginning. the answer to the question "Who?" is up to you. one things for certain, i believe the first verse to be about two objects seemingly uncorrelated acutally having the same valueable and heartfelt correlations among different types of people for example, although nature lovers might toss a "cold steel rail" as being man-made and therefore an abomination to nature's beauty, a cold steel rail "builder" or "Welder" might value such a thing and it might mean alot to him/her because he/she created it. as for the second verse- i'm not sure yet. within the chorus it's obvious the dedication and passion this song directs towards Syd. it could reference syd and the songwriter as being 2 lost souls that are searching for answers to life but havnt found them yet, yet they seem to be the only two people inquisitive and theory-bound enough on the matter. |

this is one of my favorite chili songs.. and i know ALOT of RHCP songs.. heheh. I believe the Chorus to mean the following *first off i believe it's GET what I came to give* and i'll tell you why- All and all and i'm loving every rise and fall -Appreciating life- regardless of circumstances surrounding this IE- if he "trips" in his free time.. or gets involved with "Bad crowds" or anything.. he's appreciate the rises and falls of life. The sun will make and I will take the sun (or "Son" possibly? :P) gives life to us or MAKES life for us, and we take from it. it happens daily and we take it for granted. Breath to be sure of this continues from the previous statement which could be a connection b/w these 2 previous statements or seperate.. if it's connected then he's taking a breath to be sure this is all real. that life is real, or that his philosophy or ponderings at the current moment are correct in HIS eyes, in OTHERS eyes, or if he truly believes it to be a very concrete Theory In the ending end end of life? end of existence? all will be forgiven when surrender rises high sins, etc. ill gotten gains, etc. will be forgiven when the surrender that many people so commonly speak of from a religious vantage point. and I GET * |

i always took the chorus to be this "WHEN i'm near the end and I just ain't got the time, WHEN i'm wasted [you can hear them say when a bit before this in some live versions rather than "and"] and I can't find my way home i took this to mean a battle over religious authority b/c also there is an "Oh Lord" thrown in a couple live versions and i even think it's subtly heard in the recording with Winwood on vocals.. anywho - the oh lord is generated towards God, and the singer is saying when im near the end, (the "end" of life), and I just ain't got the time (i no longer have time to do the things that I enjoy doing right now) When i'm wasted (mucho possibilities) and I can't find my way home... (is having one final trip maybe? or not even trip, maybe out of Sobriety the singer is saying when he just cant go on deviating about what else might lie out there. great song. melodious and even well done with harmony vocals live. |
