The Format – Time Bomb Lyrics 16 years ago
Nate is an amazing lyricist!
And the rest of the band is great too.

Almost all of Dog Problems is about Nate's ex.
He wrote the album as a form of "therapy" after their rocky relationship, and bad break up.
In fact the title of the album refers to the fact that every time they'd get back together, they'd buy a dog, thinking that if they had to care for a dog, they would have some common ground and be able to get along and get over their problems.

And as for the "put up there noses" debate, Nate is so crafty in so many of his songs. Most of his lines have double meanings, so it most likely means both.

Steel Train – Leave You Traveling Lyrics 16 years ago
The line "then I lost my brother to the bullets of your war" makes me wonder if Jack had a brother who died in Iraq. There's a lot about 9/11 on the whole Trampoline album, and so the event must've really had an effect on Jack. Moreso than on typical Americans.

The Format – Swans Lyrics 16 years ago
We fit into each other
We are Russian dolls
Where somewhere in the center sits a beating heart.

I love that. This is such a good song. I got in trouble the other day for drawing my interpretation of this in my assignment notebook during class. Oops.

Fall Out Boy – I'm Like a Lawyer with the Way I'm Always Trying to Get You Off (Me and You) Lyrics 17 years ago
At their Chicago show in June, Pete said, "This is a love song. About a city named Chicago."

Maybe that's not the entire thing, but I think it makes sense.

The Academy Is... – Neighbors Lyrics 17 years ago
I just saw them open for the FOB concert last night.
Previous to that, I'd only heard "Slow Down" (which I loved) and I thought they were great.
Before they played this song, William goes, "This is your new summer anthem. You just don't know it yet."

And I must agree. This song will be playing nonstop this summer for me.

*Ah, bliss.*

Plain White T's – Radios In Heaven Lyrics 17 years ago
I just randomly downloaded this song because my friend said they liked the band, and I liked the title. I just listened to the song and after double-checking the lyrics on here I just started bawling. It makes me think of my grandma who died about 2 1/2 years ago. I especially like the lines:

"it seems like just yesterday
I was laughing with you
playing games at grandma's house
well you taught me well, didn't you
I hope I'm just like you"

and

"you left before I had a chance
to say goodbye
but that's the way life usually is
it just passes you by
but you can't hold on to regrets
and you can't look back
so I'll just be thankful for
the time that I had with you"

Life is so precious, and I'm just thankful for every wonderful moment I had with her.

Guster – Satellite Lyrics 17 years ago
Taking this from a girl's point of view (and switching all the "she"s to "he"s) I can completely relate to this song.

There've been so many times when I think I've found "the" guy, who is perfect in every way. But that's because I've never gotten to know him. From far away, he might seem flawless and perfectly compatible with me.

But as soon as I get to know him I begin to notice his flaws. Or things he does that just irk me.

So therefore the "perfect guy" is always just a little bit out of reach. And unattainable.

The Format – Janet (Demo Version) Lyrics 17 years ago
How has no one commented this? It's sooo good! Janet was already my favorite song by The Format, but I don't know which version I like better. This one or the other one...

The Format – Your New Name (Hey Annalise) Lyrics 17 years ago
I find it funny that he says "I'm cursed with the voice of a kid" because Nate has an unusually high voice for a guy.

Also, when he says "pent up three word commands," "tie the rope" "tap the break" and "cause a scene" all have three words in them. And those are his most well known phrases in his music.

But maybe that was obvious? I don't know.

The Format – Career Day Lyrics 17 years ago
I don't know. This kinda seems to me like he's learned not to expect anything. Not to get his hopes up, because then if he fails, it doesn't hurt so bad. I think someone close to him died "The sound of sirens fading..." and he just gives up. He knows that in the future he should just prepare for the worst and then he won't get hut.

But he's got a girl that loves him. And she'll do anything for him, and wants him to know that she loves him no matter what goes wrong. And no matter what goes wrong, they'll "be together in the morning." So he will always have her to lean on.

Teddy Geiger – These Walls Lyrics 17 years ago
I think what Teddy is trying to say is that in order to get anything (love, success, happiness, etc.) you have to be willing to rid yourself of all your inhibitions. You can't "drown in your fears," you just have to do it. And you can't be all up tight if everything doesn't go the way you want it, you have to go with the flow. ("I've got no master plan to help me out.")

The Format – The Compromise Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm a new fan of The Format and I absolutley love their music! My cousin had tickets to see the All American Rejects (who I don't really listen to...) on their Tournado tour and The Format was one of the bands that opened for them. This was the first song that I heard by them and I adored their music! It just made me want to get up and dance and sing along, even though I didn't know any of the words. Now that I've looked at some of their lyrics more closely, I realize how AMAZING of a writer Nate is (and the other members of the band). I'm really glad I discovered them.
