Ten Foot Pole – Rachel Corrie Lyrics 17 years ago
i've never heard this song; i was looking for the billy bragg song that uses the tune and chorus of bob dylan's 'lonesome death of hattie carol.' but its about the same subject; a girl from washington who goes to palestine to become a human shield and is run over by an israeli bulldozer.

Neutral Milk Hotel – Holland, 1945 Lyrics 17 years ago
this is my favourite song ever written. it's been maybe 4 years since i first heard it but every time i listen i still get a little teary. the first time i heard it i thought, right away, that it was about anne frank. i threw that theory at the friend of mine who introduced me to nmh and he was surprised; he had never thought of it. i mean, i think obviously, superficially, the song is about anne frank, but it has a lot of deeper layers to it. and i dont think you have to realize (or believe) that it's about anne frank to appreciate the deeper themes below the surface.

Billy Bragg – She's Got a New Spell Lyrics 17 years ago
the first time i heard this song was the 'peel sessions' version. i must have listened to it 45 times on repeat. it's one of those songs that just gets under your skin and you feel like you've heard it before, you know it already, but you have to hear it again. and again. just one more time.

Billy Bragg – Help Save The Youth Of America Lyrics 17 years ago
i just typed up a long comment but i deleted it all. i just want to say: i love billy bragg, and all of his songs have deep meanings; some are love songs, some are political anthems, some are somewhere in between. i used to think this one was purely a political criticism of the apathetic way the youth of america react to the rest of the world, but once you dig into the lyrics, you can see it's a love song too; it's kind of bitter that america had such potential to help the rest of the world and never really did, and at the same time its hopeful that maybe the next generation will correct this generations mistakes.
so i dont know what i'm trying to say here. one of my favourite billy bragg songs. that's all i guess.
