This song to me is about losing someone you care about so deeply. It is due to something that is beyond both of your control (depression, ect.) And as much as the person writing the song wants it to work out more than anything, the other person is already gone ("I climbed the hill, I wanted to look down on you But all I saw was twenty miles of wilderness So I went home ") This song has a positive message though, it says that you'll get over it and life goes on for the broken hearted, and to move on ("If you think to yourself, “What should I do now?” Then take the baton, girl, you better run with it There is no point in standing in the past Because it’s over and done with") This is by far my favorite Belle & Sebestian song, it has helped me through many hard times. |

it just is the song of the love of a father to a daughter and how it can't be matched by any, obviously. When I saw Paul Simon in concert this song was fantastic, and a little boy even came out to sing the child's part of the song. |
